#5 - Shoshone - Tent Creekside
This is a family private owned small campground (16 sites only) located on the outskirts of Placerville. The property features 86.5 secluded Tahoe like acres with beautiful year-round Weber Creek. The camp sites are placed along the creek or the bluff overlooking the creek. We have traditional dirt camping, platforms with canvas tents and glamping tents for those that want the comforts of home. Our hallmark is our family teepee! We are all about tent camping – we do not allow travel trailers, campers or van camping.
We’ve been told that we have a “family camp” vibe.We are a great place for families wanting a safe environment for their kids but also several group sites for those that want to hang out together. We are also a great base site for those wilderness enthusiasts with access to all the El Dorado National Forest including Desolation but want a hot shower at the end of the day.Tahoe is less than an hour away.We are dog friendly and love our pets but absolutely enforce leash laws to protect your pet as well as the other campers.Due to the nature of our mixed audience camp we also enforce our quiet period from 10 pm to 7 AM.
We have a lodge that is stocked with game tables and every game imaginable along with a ping pong table. The lodge has a Keurig machine and a hot water kettle for those hot drinks (BYO Cups). We have several tables set up for those that want to eat inside as well as multiple picnic tables along the side of the lodge with overhead protection. We’ve been told that our bathrooms are the “cleanest” ever and have changing tables and diaper pails. The showers are nice and cleaned daily.
For outdoor activities we have basketball, volley ball and cornhole not to mention the playground with swing sets, seesaw and tractor play.We also have many outdoor games for meadow play including a tug-a-war rope, gunny sacks, baseballs, gloves and a soccer net.We have hiking trails throughout the property. Our highlight is a camp fire bowl with bench seating with a stage to display camper talent which is perfect for the evening fire and roasting s’mores (bring the fixings). The common area has BBQs – both propane and charcoal as well as a cooking griddle (we also adding a campfire pit in the campfire bowl area for charcoal dutch oven cooking). We are in the wilderness so we have a cool room to store all food at night – yes bears live in the wilderness but avoid camp.
The Creek starts out in the spring looking like a rushing river featuring lots of swimming holes and fishing. However, as the summer evolves it is more of a small creek even though we do dam a portion of it (goes up memorial day weekend and down after labor day) for those that want to use floating devices (starts out 6 feet and ends up closer to 3 feet). We do not allow individual campfires but have propane fire pits at each site that require the purpose of propane.
We are located in the foothills so we are a short hop to many local attractions that include river rafting, gold mines, wineries and historic towns with great eating establishments. There’s always something happened in downtown Placerville. To make things nicer for our guests we have the ability to rent a limited number of tents, cots, individual propane fire pits, BBQs, etc. - anything to make it easier for our campers.Come give our location a try – we think you’ll enjoy yourselves.
This site has a 10x12 tent and features openings on both ends with mosquito netting and also a window overlooking the creek. The tent features 2 individual cots and bunk bed cots. This particular site has easy access located directly across the bridge from the lodge and restrooms. There is space for a small additional tent.
Reservation considerations. We require a 3 night minimum for the major holidays - Memorial Day, 4th of July land Labor Day. Beginning in the 2020 season we do not do checkins on Sunday. However, if you are on site and want to extend over Sunday night all you have to do is let us know in advance or during your stay. Due to COVID many of our weddings were postponed into 2021 so many weekends during May, June, September and October are not available for camping. So if one weekend is booked looked to another weekend or you might consider a mid-week - Monday - Thursday visit.
Checkin is between 4 and 8. If you are coming from the Bay allow 4 hours - you must leave by 3:00 or 4:00 at the latest to arrive during checkin. If you get delayed, for the consideration of the other campers you may consider waiting and arriving Saturday morning. Going forward there will be no checkins after 9:00.

The hosts were great. Facility was clean and there were unexpected amenities throughout the camp. (loved the Blackstone!)
The kids all had a blast with plenty of communal space for the families in our party to mingle.
Was perfect for what we needed to achieve (young kinds annual trip while accommodating a pregnant woman)
Awesome property - amazing owners
My friends and I had an amazing time at Camp Nauvoo! Greg and Mason were so friendly and hospitable throughout the trip and they really made the stay memorable for our group.
Our campsite did have a meat bee/hornet problem but Greg/Mason brought over traps and bug spray as soon as we asked. You're in nature and we know you can't really control the environment but they really tried and we noticed the difference between the days. For the last day, we did end up cooking in the community area and did not run into any meat bee issues at all. (Random note but it was actually fun for our group to learn more about meat bees/hornets and observe the hornets that got caught in the traps! Greg is NOT afraid of those lil buggers at all)
When we asked about whether or not the shop had bowls, Mason personally came and delivered some extras that were lying around. Overall, the theme is that they really went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed our time at Nauvoo. You can tell they put so much attention and love into the property.
The property itself is great! There is anything and everything you might need. Showers/Bathroom was well kept - the community/kitchen area as great - spacious for a group!, the campsite and tent cabin (our group stayed in both) were also well maintained. There is a basketball court, volleyball court area, huge grassy area for running around and playing games, a small private swimming hole, 3 or so hikes at varying degrees of difficulty.
5+/5 stars. Thank you so much for making our group feel so welcome! We had a great time and would highly recommend others to visit Camp Nauvoo as well!
Great hosts and camp site
Greg & Laurie were very accommodating. They made sure all of the facilities were clean and gently made sure people were all taken care of. We were out and about on an excursion and Greg came by and put a shade tent to cover our picnic area so we wouldn’t get too much sun. It was about 100 outside. We got back about 2pm and were able to eat our lunch in the shade. They also checked that there were places to cook and clean. Just little things that made a huge difference on our trip. Thank you friends!
It’s our second year and we’ll be back again!
Part of me wants to keep this gem as a secretary, but hard work and dedication of Greg absolutely no doubt must be rewarded. Place is kept clean and neat.
Greg is always welcoming, accommodating and attentive.
Great site. worth the visit
Nice campsite. Friendly staff. Our particular campsite #5 just happened to be in direct sun from 4-7 pm. I think next time we’ll get campsite #4 which is far more protected by shade. Our 4 and 6 year old loved the place and want to come back
Absolutely perfect place for family
We had a wonderful stay at Camp Nauvoo! My kids are already planning our next trip!!! Greg was so helpful and had my littlest in giggles at the start and end of our trip and cheered my oldest along with his fishing endeavors! We will definitely be back to Camp Nauvoo!!!
