Amazing views and tranquility.
On a hillside property in the heart of Vancouver Island’s west coast, Pacific Ranch offers amazing views, stream-side forest walks, and private tranquility. Driving in along the winding and steep driveway, one arrives on the unique property to find rocky, moss-covered bluffs, and fern-carpeted forests. Across these settings are three private campsites for one to choose from.
The highest site at the top of the hill on the bluff was my choice, where the sun rising above the mountains through the trees is the morning view. Down the hill there are two more sites: a smaller middle site tucked along a walking path in the forest; and the lowest and largest site, also under the trees and just overlooking the stream. No matter the choice of site, each is provided with a firepit and firewood, and lots of privacy, with the highest and lowest sites coming equipped with seating as well. Numerous taps exist around the property for water fill-up, and there’s an axe for chopping wood down at the lowest site. For those looking to catch the sunrise and mountain views, at the very top of the property is a fantastic seating area for guests to enjoy. Near the house there’s even wifi should one need to connect for a few minutes, as cell reception on the property is spotty at best. Do keep in mind, however, there’s no bathroom provided (yet) so use the forest responsibly, or bring your own camp toilet.
Activities on the property abound, with walking trails cutting throughout and leading off onto crown land. The horses are friendly and wander about, and there’s a number of dogs – who, while a bit barky, are friendly enough when they’re not exploring the property on their own terms. With the plethora of mountain/bluff views and the stream running below, ample wildlife viewing opportunities exist throughout the property. Matheson Lake is mere steps away, providing fishing, swimming, and hiking. Also nearby is East Sooke Regional Park with amazing west coast views, hiking trails, and more.
The hosts are supremely friendly, welcoming, and responsive, very quick to do anything to make a stay at the Ranch as good as possible. Although I visited in some very changeable weather, the hosts were extremely helpful and kind in making me as comfortable as I could be in the torrential downpours. For anyone looking to explore Sooke and the west coast, Pacific Ranch makes a great basecamp.
Beautifully quiet, stunning views
Dave was quick to respond and was able to provide detailed directions so we didn’t get lost. It is a gorgeous location with beautiful views and an amazing space. No cell service was annoying when I arrived/ lol but by the time the sun went down I was grateful to be able to unplug and relax 100%. Can’t wait to go back when the fire ban is lifted!
Wonderful car camping spot
Dave was a really amazing host. He was welcoming and we chatted in the morning before we left. The campsite was beautiful, with a view of the mountains! There's no toilet or shower so be prepared to dig a cathole if you're tent camping.
