A slice of canadian paradise
I stayed the other night with Cornelius (Murphy) and had an absolutely wonderful stay. After a crazy work weekend I arrived a little later than expected, but Murphy was outside ready to welcome me onto his property. I was shown down to the lower step near the creek and was settled in quickly. In the morning I woke to peace and quiet and a beautiful East Kootenay oasis. Sun poked in through the trees, Gold Creek gurgled softly and chickens poked around looking for food. I had a chance to chat at length with Murphy about the surrounding area and got a short tour of his 33 acre slice of Canada and all its hidden camp spots. The property is set up to be a great step-off point for atv, dirtbike, horseback and hiking adventures. Murphy has had the yard equipped for horseback riding with a horse ring and stable as well. You can choose to stay beside the creek in a few different spots or can park an RV further up the hill behind the main yard. If you stay here you are welcome to use the bathroom and laundry, just make sure to turn out the lights when you leave because this whole place is completely off-grid! Overall, I had a wonderful stay, Murphy and his wife Angela (Ange) are wonderful and hospitable people that love to host. The property is located about 15-20 minutes outside of Cranbrook down Gold Creek Road, the road is gravel and passes through crown land and clear cut so don't be confused when you leave the city limits.
Charming place & welcoming people
Very wonderful little piece of land. The tent was set up by the cutest and most soothing little stream. We were 3 adults and there was plenty of space to roam around and a place to hang hammocks on. Con and Angela are the most welcoming and wonderful people. From the very beginning they had us feeling like family, despite having just met us. They were very welcoming and made many things available for us to use. 10/10 would recommend you check out this place.
Bonus points for the cute little body guard/ dog - very friendly & adorable.
Peaceful cranbrook campsite
We had a real joy and pleasure to stay in Peaceful Cranbrook Campsite. Our favorite HipCamp site in BC. Very family and kids friendly hosts. Kids had a blast playing with dog and the chickens, as well, as collecting the fresh eggs. Awesome nature around the camp's location, best views ever! Will definitely camp there again. Thank you, to your family Cornelius, it was a real pleasure meeting you guys.
Peaceful and beautiful
Beautiful location! We chose a spot next to the brook which gave us a wonderful sound to fall asleep to. Wish we had planned to stay longer to explore the area. Cornelius was a very tentative and gracious host.
Beautiful place, amazing host
Amazing host! Cornelius showed us his property where there are lots of different options to set up a tent. We set up our tent just next to the creek, on a nice flat piece of grass. The area is really beautiful, and Cornelius gave us some tips for things to do around the area.
Highly recommend staying here😊
Unique camping in a little oasis.
What a wonderful experience.
Beautiful property with lots of different areas for camping/RV.
We chose a spot down by the creek/river and it was delightful.
Murphy and Angela bent over backwards to make sure we had a great time. Really nice couple who made it a special experience. Oh and our three year old dog had a blast with the property dog Rufus.
We will definitely be returning here.
A special thanks to great hosts.
The most beautiful campsite
This was the most beautiful campsite we’ve ever seen and we could not recommend it more. We are a family with 2 young children and we were made to feel so welcome by Cornelius. He greeted us so warmly, gave us a choice of where to set up and even let our 2 boys meet the chickens and gave us fresh eggs! We chose to stay close to the main house so that we were able to use the washroom (which had a private entrance). Our boys ran wild and free in what can only be described as paradise for children! There was a swing set we were able to use and they spent most of the time paddling in the creek and playing “Pooh sticks” on the bridge. Our dog was also very welcome and able to be off leash. We really can’t thank Cornelius enough for his hospitality and kindness and we will definitely visit again if we are in the area.
Mine/corn's first h'camp experience
This was my first use of a Hipcamp listing and I was Cornelius' very first guest! His was in an area that was convenient for me and that I found had limited, more commercial, camping alternatives. It is a half hour drive from town. He has a lovely secluded property with lots of choices for campsites. He was welcoming, showed me a deeper part of the creek for a swimming hole, and even brought me some freshly laid eggs that I had for breakfast. The terrain is a little rough so you will want to have good clearance on your vehicle. There is a limited area near his house if you want to be close to his washroom and shower; otherwise you'll have to make do with a full Mother Nature.
