Old home site of local sawmillers. The house is gone but you will pass the old sawmill on the way in. Just 5 miles from I-40, but no houses or lights in sight. Hike down to Mulberry River or .5 mile to endless National Forest. Great stop for interstate travelers that want to stretch their legs or for multi-day campers who want to explore the area.   Learn more about this land: Ozark Mountain primitive camping in shaded, grassy horse pasture across the road from my house. 5 miles from I-40. Convenient spot for I-40 travelers looking for relaxed camping with great hiking/riding before hitting the road. 1/2 mile down the road from Ozark National Forest with excellent hiking, mountain biking (15+ miles ride in/ride out, single track), horse friendly (fenced pasture w/ stalls & pond). Water/outdoor shower available at house.   Near Mulberry River,  Devil's Canyon, &  Fern Gully  scenic hiking/climbing areas.  Across the road from dwelling but still isolated, with no other places in view. Dogs can be off-leash, single party camping only.

We had a great time here! Grant was a great host and very helpful. His property is absolutely beautiful and peaceful. It was the perfect getaway for our family and pups. There were some very pretty hikes nearby that Grant recommended to us and we’re glad we took his suggestions.

Pretty property, nicely mowed and lots of space to move around with our dog. Convenient to highway but far enough away no noise. Met one of Grant’s dogs, so sweet!!

The very specific directions given made this campsite really easy to find. (also my GPS took me directly there). I was a little worried after the directions seemed intimidating, but our big ol heavy cargo van did just fine getting there down the tight turns and dirt road. Open piece of field surrounded by woods, right across the street from Grant's house. There was plenty of room to park and set up, and even more room if you are tent camping. So much so that if you had a few tents, you could all have plenty of privacy from one another! Burn ban was going on, but if it wasn't... there was a fire pit and bench. Two of the best dogs came to visit. (I wanted to take Millie home with me, she was SO SWEET!)... Grant stopped over to visit as well. Unfortunately, our own dog turned into a jerk on this trip (her first road trip) and she is so scared of other dogs that she was getting very reactive. Grant rounded up his pups and lead them out for the evening to help accommodate our situation, which we greatly appreciated. If you want nature, this place has it. Once the sun went down, everything was pitch black. Perfect for star gazing, but bring plenty of light if you're doing things like cooking after dark. There were a lot of trails we could see, which we wish we had more time to go explore. Only negative would be the ticks. Make sure you check yourself and animals for them (to be expected when you're surrounded by tall grass and forest).
