We car camped and loved it! We ended up getting there after dark -- the directions were easy to follow and we were able to find the site no problem. Our hosts were very welcoming, and even helped us build a fire (as the wood was a little wet). Much appreciated!
Wide open camping
I stayed a night when passing through and visiting Petrified Forest NP. It’s 40 acres and I was the only person there. You just pull up and park anywhere you want. The road to the property is very rutted and I don’t see a low car making it.
Peaceful desert camping
Desert Skies was a fantastic spot to camp. Jason called to check on my arrival time and brought out plenty of split, dry wood for my campfire. He was a great host and really seemed to enjoy having visitors. The site was clearly marked and had a great fire pit with mesh lid and a stand up BBQ grill. Very peaceful site with the sounds of trains in the distance while sleeping under the milky way. I did not have time to visit Petrified Forest (which is very close by), but would certainly stay at Desert Skies again when in the area. Highly recommended!
Nice easy stay!
Good directions, well demarcated camping lots, and nice spacious lot areas with fire pits and BBQ! Would recommend!
*the dirt road getting in was quite bumpy and muddy, but it was partially raining / snowing before we stayed.
Camping under the stars
We had a great night at Jason and Kim’s! Awesome night sky’s and very friendly host. It’s a very remote property with a few camp spots but close enough to major roads and the petrified forest NP!
Thanks for sharing your great property!
Super easy place to find right off the highway to relax for the night, and was so nice to have a fire ring. Hosts were so friendly and accommodating, and had a beautiful sunset to watch in the evening, can’t go wrong!
Quiet, safe, and beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset. The fire pit and grill were an unexpected bonus. 10min drive to the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. It was a great spot to pull off and sleep for the night!
