Hummingbird campground is a very nice place to stay. The services are essentials but aligned with what the area offers and Brian was super kind in welcoming us and offering to help. The location is just great: it’s a few minutes drive from the Monument Valley park entrance but most importantly right by a trail that in 15 minutes bring you to the canyon rim where you get a stunning view of the valley and its most famous buttes. Loved the stay!
Brain was an amazing host, came out to greet me, let me know where the bathroom and shower were. Very friendly gentleman, never felt like I couldn't ask for anything. The sunset was amazing. This site is a great deal for anyone going to monument valley. Only downside was the winds were strong the night I was there.
Nice stay in monument valley
The property was easy to find. The host wasn’t there when I got there. Some confusion about which site was mine or was it open (first come, first served). I got my suv stuck in the sand, so hopefully future people who stay there won’t have my bad luck. Very peaceful area. Beautiful 360 degree views.
The downside for me was the internet was down and I didn’t have cell service. I couldn’t find where to get drinking water, but I also didn’t look super hard. The outhouse was nice. All in all, it served its purpose for me.
Great location, beautiful view of the stars with almost no light pollution. Brian takes care and pride in his location, and it shows. If you have a camera with a tripod, this is a great place to get some long exposures of the night sky, especially in the summer when the Milky Way core is higher in the sky. On a moonless night, the starlight is just bright enough to see by.
A caution to RV travelers: The turnoff from the road is problematic for vehicles over 32' in length, you will bottom out or clip your bumper. I did both. The slope after the cattle guard is a little steep, you'll need at least 8" of clearance on a vehicle with a wheelbase longer than the typical truck.
Remote and quiet
I decided to stay at Humming Bird on my way from Page to Mexican Hat, and was not disappointed. The campsite is very quiet with a nice view of Monument Valley and an amazing sunset.
I was met by the camp host and a couple of super friendly dogs upon arrival. The campsite was spacious with a covered picnic table and a firepit, and the outhouse and shower were clean.
I definitely recommend trying the Navajo taco dinner. Great stay, thank you!
