I've been using these cabins since they were first constructed by AK DNR. They are one of the jewels of the DNR public use cabin system. That the State of AK has privatized such an amazing, highly prized and utilized public resource is a terrible shame, to say the least. The private vendor does virtually nothing as far as maintenance, simply pocketing the profits. This cabin used to have two fire extinguishers; now there is only one, which has been discharged, and has been for several years. The outhouse is filthy and the ridgecap of its roof is missing, so rain and snow infiltrates and it is always wet inside. This too has been the case for several years. The picture window seal has failed and it's fogging. The entry door lockwork, while still currently functional is falling apart. The signpost out front has been broken off for more than a decade. Basic upkeep and ongoing maintenance necessary to any structure is obviously not being performed...in favor of the profit margin. To add insult (and it is in every respect of the word, an insult) to injury, now the private vendor has farmed out the reservation system for these cabins to Hipcamp, who charged $15.90 per night additional fees, which included a "cleaning fee" of $2.50 per night (Nobody cleans these cabins except the visitors when they depart)! Every single party involved in this scam (the State of Alaska, Valdez Adventure Alliance, and Hipcamp) against the citizens of Alaska should be thoroughly ashamed!!

Easy access to get to cabin. Outhouse could use some repairs and brush cut down around cabin and to outhouse.

Fun cabin. The black flies were out in force but great weather and caught lots of shrimp. About 30 sea otters in the bay in the mornings and evenings. Had the bay to ourselves and the lagoon was beautiful. I forget every time but the cabins built by the state have "foam pads" on all the bunks that I remember being thicker than they are. Definitely bring a sleeping pad. Space is limited on my zodiac so we usually don't but I will figure out how to next time.

The cabin and bay are wonderful. I have stayed before. I was not happy about the low flying helicopters this time. One flew right over the cabin and was very jarring. This was a new thing since last time I stayed.
Am not sure I would stay again because of that, or may just stay over night on my way elsewhere. I would be very frank with friends about it.
Am not sure what you can do about this, but it was a bummer for such a wonderful place.

Lovely PUC. Got there via water taxi. Beautiful bay views. Heating stove works great. 2 double-sized bunk beds with padded sleeping cushions. Still lots of snow on ground when we stayed in late May 2022.
