If you value simplicity + being independent, Skipp's campground is for you! Like his apple orchard up the road, he wants to make his campsites completely self serve! It was nice to be able to drive in + get set up without ever worrying about needing talk to anyone else. I loved being in a space where you could truly reflect + enjoy nature uninterrupted!

The space itself is a very large + open area with multiple sites, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a weekend away alone or with a big group of family/friends! There is also a big fire pit in the middle of the field with tons of benches!

My 4th time I've hipcamped..but the first in a shared space. Loved it. Got to meet some other campers and share stories with new people over the fire. Maybe thats not for you..but it was for us. The camp feels super secluded but is just minutes from Sturgeon Bay. Definitely the most expensive hipcamp I've stayed at...but I dont regret the extra we paid.

Our Boy Scout Troop used Shady Acres as a base camp from which we did a day trip of Hiking, Kayaking, and Biking in Peninsula State Park ~ 1 hour away. Plenty of space to spread out and pitch tents. A large fire pit with swing out adjustable height grill grating, benches. Bring your own water , or plan to drive down to Skipp's orchard with containers to get some great well water from Skipp.

Weird camping. The owner and I texted a bit prior to camping and I had 6 people, 3 tents (ended up being 2 tents) and 3 cars planned to use one site for one night. All adults and we planned to grill out and drink a few beers. It was all cool. He also said there would be one other group and that didn't seem bad.

We get there to find that the campground is full of boyscouts, a dozen tents, all the fire pits claimed and no room for us. Definitely no privacy for our own group. I called the owner, Skipp who looks like Billy Ray Cyrus and asked what we should do. He comes out and starts suggesting to tuck up in the tents and make due.

Well, I didn't pay $80 (would've been 25 at a state park) to hang out with boyscouts and asked about the open area on the other side of the driveway. He said he didn't want people back there cuz that's for prepping for deer hunting. I had to explain that mingling with the boyscouts was not really something we want and I considered asking for a refund. He reluctantly allowed us to use the other area. But his brother in law gave us some crap about it messing up the deer and blah blah. Kind of shitty attitude about it.

The area we had was beautiful. And full of deer cams. I'm sure they got some pics of me peeing in the woods. We had a great time making ribs and hanging out.

Overall I paid too much, had to press for any amount of privacy, met with grumbles about messing up their hunting, no toilet amenities, and being recorded. And being woken up by some boy playing the bugle poorly; boyscouts had no respect for others and the owner did nothing to enforce proper space adequacy. If they don't want people scarring away the deer they shouldn't rent out campsites. Borderlinee scam.

Beautiful spot! Excellent location to explore Door County. Peaceful and private, with spots for campfires and well maintained toilet. Kids had a blast and so did we.

The camping area was as described in the website. This was our first camping experience. The host was gracious in helping us with the campfire.

We loved camping here! Skipp was very welcoming and made sure we were comfortable. Great spot for larger groups. Very close to the beach and Bay Area! Would definitely come back! Thanks Skip!
