Lewana is a historic ex forestry workers estate located on the Blackwood River and Tourist Route 251 between Balingup and Nannup. The 100 acre property is situated amongst state and pine forest and the parkland setting has over 50 different trees varieties creating a beautiful place to stay at any time of year.

Located towards the bottom of the Lewana Valley, Base Camp offers majestic views of the wide open landscape above and the brook and ponds below.

The view of the ridge line climbing to over 300m elevation makes you want to climb up to the top to experience the views over the Blackwood. The open and exposed level site is most suitable for self-contained camp set ups with the ablution facilities located 250m away by the old barn.

The campground is not shaded which is perfect for solar panels however an awning of something to provide shade would be needed in summer months.

Access is via a sloping gravel track with turning space adjacent to the campground, which most suitable for 4WD towing vehicles or 2WD tent set ups.

Conventional caravans and tents can be used in summer. Access from the gravel road is via a grassed level track, however parts of the site are on a slight slope.

Lewana is the ideal place to base yourself to enjoy the picturesque region of Balingup and the surrounding areas including Donnybrook, Nannup and Bridgetown.

Surrounded by orchards and award-winning wineries there is plenty to do during your stay. Experience nature by walking part of the Bibbulmun Track or cycle a section of the Mundi Bibbi Track, you can even kayak on the Blackwood River from historic Wrights Bridge.

Please note: no campfires between 1st Nov and 26th April subject to Shire ruling.

Dog friendly, strictly by prior arrangement only.

Shower & toilet available adjacent to the old barn, communal fire pit & gas BBQ.

No generators or trail bikes allowed.

Coffee Cart open 8am to 10am on weekends and public/school holidays.

This campsite puts you at the base of some big hills that form a gorgeous backdrop. From there, there’s a road (2wd accessible, when dry) that leads to some really high places, perfect for hiking. With views over the whole area you can watch the morning fog rolling through (an amazing sight!) Mark was very accomodating and kind enough to show me some really good spots for photography. There is a good chance I’ll be back in the near future to do some astrophotography because that place is perfect for it!

Our group had a wonderful time at Lewana's Base Camp. This style of camping is right up our alley....secluded, self-sufficient, beautiful vistas. Come properly prepared and you'll have an amazing experience. While you have the advantage of an off-grid style site you also have access to a clean toilet & shower. Our hosts were super helpful and helped us figure out the best layout for our vehicles to be comfortable and flat on the site. The nearby backroads lead you to amazing views of the valley - highly recommend packing sunset treats & drinks and driving up the rolling hills to enjoy the sun going down over the valley. We also loved the small shop onsite - full of fresh eggs & delicious homemade preserves, visiting the animals, stargazing and walking around the historical cottages. The property is full of many thoughtful touches. And, if you're into gravel road cycling you can't get much closer to the action than this location and the owners are super generous and accommodating to cyclists. All around we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Base Camp and would happily return and recommend it to other campers.

Amazing location, beautiful scenery and great hosts. We loved our 4 day Easter trip and didn’t want to leave. Looking up to the stars and Milky Way at night, waking up to emu and kangaroo in the morning, set a few hundred metres from any one else it was a peaceful for our family. We enjoyed exploring the logging forests and although we did venture into town to see what was there we would happily have spent the whole time without getting in the car or going anywhere.

Emily, thanks so much for taking the time to post a review. Jayne and I really appreciate it. We fell in love with Lewana the first time we saw it and are so pleased others see what it has to offer. The star gazing is amazing with no light pollution and Base Camp does offer some great open views. Glad you enjoyed your visit and we hope you arrange another stay in the future - we would love to see you return. Bring your friends and stay together in Running Brook. Thanks again, Mark.

Awesome camping experience at Base Camp with the family. Privacy with a nice view and regular visits from kangaroos and emus on the hills. Clean facilities and not too far to walk.
Would like to come back in the cooler months so we could have a campfire. Thanks
