One hour drive from Kununurra or Wyndham and the Gibb River Road is Hairy Dog's Fishing Camp and Lazy Dog campsite, located on the banks of the Ord River, home to the famous sportfish, barramundi. Tropical wildlife, lots of birdlife and crocodiles coexist here and you have river views, access to boat ramps, local attractions including a bird sanctuary. You can also join one of our popular guided tours. Set above highwater mark, the campsite sits safely on the riverbank with views of the historical landmark, House Roof Hill. Birdlife twitters about all day (and some through the night), while agile wallabies hop on by. Trees for shade and water for cooking/washing make for a comfortable campsite. A shared and well-maintained ablution block contains 2 showers and 2 flush toilets for all to use. You can enjoy an open fire at our large fire-pit and several small fire stands are provided for a more personal touch. If you have your own boat, it is often possible it can be launched and moored from the camp's boat ramp. No kayaks, canoes or floating-type watercraft are able to be used in this section of the river due to the large crocodiles that live here. A plunge pool is available for a 'cool off'. For info on the region, we are happy to share our knowledge.Set above high-water mark, the campsite sits safely on the Lower Ord riverbank with views of the river and the famous historical landmarks, House Roof Hill & Carlton Crossing.  Fully guided barramundi fishing tours leave from this location or you can use your own boat.  There is access to a boat ramp. The river is scenic with lots of tropical wildlife and birdlife.  If using your own boat, adhere to the fishing rules and acknowledge the wild river conditions and its inhabitants.  Advice is available. At the campsite birdlife twitters about all day (and sometimes through the night), while agile wallabies hop on by. Trees for shade and water for cooking/washing make for a comfortable campsite.  You are welcome to use the 'Barra Tank' [small plunge pool] for a cool off. A shared and well-maintained ablution block contains 2 showers and 2 flush toilets for all to use. There are 2 large fire-pits available for campers to enjoy, however, you need to collect firewood on your way to the camp.  Check with us re using your own fire pot and check the fire restrictions before any open fire use. Pets are welcome.

M5 Adventures Recommend 🤙🏼
Jane was a fantastic host and provided a nifty little camp spot, close to what you need with a fun way to get there. You can either go through the Ivanhoe or take a mostly dirt road to get there. There is an old Barra pool that is now a pool which is perfect for swimming. There is boat access for those who like to fish. This camp has shower and toilets also. We had a blast here and loved our time at Lazy Dog camp.

We had a great stay at Hairy Dogs Campground! Our campsite, located close to the river, was spacious and grassy. I loved how the trees and flowers gave us some privacy and shade. It was so nice to cool off in the plunge pool and the amenities were clean and tidy. We enjoyed walking down to the river and exploring the bushland surroundings with loads of birds and wallabies to look at. Thanks for the stay Jane and Hairy Dog!

Peace and less people :)
I would 100% come back and camp here. I took my dog and my intention was to sit and relax with limited people exposure and that is exactly what I did here. Nice toilet and shower when I needed, the tank pool was oh so refreshing many times during the hot day. A day trip to Wyndham was a real suprise. Spots are shady, hosts are lovely, property dog Rosie is a sweety. I cant find a thing I didn't love about Hairy Dog camp spot. 10/10 for camping. If you fish with a boat this is an ace spot too.

We enjoyed our stay very much. There are 5 big sites that would suit a van or a tent. Great welcome, feeling of inclusion and over-all we really enjoyed our stay. Jane is a great host and you HAVE to get onto the Ord..... what a magnificent waterway and thanks to Mic who was a great fishing guide. Thank you and highly recommended.

Great camp-spot, great hosts.
The hosts were very welcoming and kind, we got a great camp spot with shade for our tent and fire pits that can be moved about. Sunsets are unreal. Rosie the dog is also a highlight and I think our lab/kelpie thought so too! Access to warm showers between 5-7pm, amenities are simple, clean & tidy and lots of cute little green frogs everywhere to keep ya company while you shower :) loved our stay here, would recommend to friends/fam and definitely would visit again!
