Beautiful place! Lovely to stay in a more secluded spot and have the horses right nearby. However, there’s a reason the campsite itself is not pictured as it’s a pretty small enclosed area with fairly uneven ground. As well, the “toilet” at the site isn’t a port a potty/latrine, it’s truly just slats of wood and some tarp, so very unclear how you’d go #2 if you had to. And bring your own TP. It was a perfectly fine place to stay given the campsites in town were booked up, with the exception of the lack of a proper toilet.
We had a great time camping on Tom’s land! He has a wonderful area to set up camp with a fire ring and a portable toilet that is very convenient to Harper’s Ferry. His farm is lovely and Tom and his wife were such warm, welcoming hosts! We camped with 4 kids (5 and under) and they loved saying hi to the animals. We saw horses, goats and cows. Tom was so kind and communicative- he met us upon arrival and used his truck to haul our gear to the camping spot. He then met us again in the morning to to bring it back. I’d love to come back and would recommend Cattail View to everyone!
Peaceful, scenic farm
We had a peaceful day enjoying the beautiful scenery and friendly animals on the farm. The campsite is clean and well kept with a picnic table, fire pit and soft, neatly mowed grass. Heed Tom's warning that the site is surrounded on three sides by an electric fence - which wasn't a problem for us, but for those with younger children might be important to know. We requested a contactless check-in because we have a medically fragile family child, and Tom was very accommodating. He texted us everything we needed to know and answered all of my questions "remotely". My son was so inspired by the friendly horses that he came home and wrote a fictional story about "Charlotte the Horse". What a great family memory!
We loved Tom’s campsite! It was secluded and overlooked beautiful rolling hills. Firewood was already chopped and ready to be used at the campsite. Tom was very kind and we felt very welcomed on his property. We loved seeing all the horses, deer, and all kinds of birds. It was the perfect place to unwind. The site is primitive but gave us everything we needed. Would definitely come back to stay again!
Nice private site sandwiched in between two fields with horses. Lots of firewood, great views of a meadow with a winding stream. The only thing I wish we had brought was a table. The kids loved seeing the animals.
Tom was very responsive, where I hadn’t been because I was driving! When I arrived past dark, and I figured remorsefully that farmers like him don’t stay up long past dark, he didn’t hesitate at all to come outside and show us to the campsite, matter-of-factly, and no trace of annoyance for my earlier radio silence. Camp site is a short drive around the property and a 200-or-so-yard walk - a good ways out of ear- and eyeshot of the farmhouse. On the way along the horse pen, a flashlight shone into the dark and a beautiful white horse was illuminated running through the field. He had left a generous bundle of perfectly dry firewood of various sizes to use in his fire ring. Grounds were flat and soft. We had a lovely time, and stopped by the horses on our way out for a little pat. Would stay here again.
Beautiful place to camp, beautiful views, slight noise from the road, and short walk from the car to the site but long enough to not really be “car camping”. We got to see the Huge red moon right next to Mars illuminate the entire scenery at night. Amazing.
Beautiful experience overall.
Great primative secluded site
There are 2 sites in the farm. One has a little house/cabin and the other is completely primative and private. We had the primative site and loved it! The host Tom was extremely responsive and helpful and taught us and our kids a few things about horses. We enjoyed the simplicity and solitude and all the stars at night.
We cooled off in the river that was a short drive away.
