Description

We know it’s cliche, but we mean it when we say it—Maryhill State Park is truly one-of-a-kind. The 99-acre camping park offers a little somethin’ somethin’ for both nature and culture fanatics. Set along the Columbia River, the campground is home to 20 tent sites, 50 utilities sites, bathrooms and showers, and one RV dump station. Just one mile from the park, you can fake an English escape to Stonehenge… or a full-scale replica of it, built by eccentric Sam Hill. He can also take credit for the large “castle” on the top of the hill that he built for his daughter; it’s now the Maryhill Museum of Art. And when you’re ready to reflect on all the “art,” you’ve just seen, we think there’s no better spot than from a tube in the Columbia River.

Cool views, near the maryhill museum, which features art, sculptures, and resident peacocks! Great place for a picnic.

I'll admit, we didn't love Maryhill. It was packed cheek-to-jowl with RVs and there was zero privacy between sites. We were also moving through so we didn't have the time to give Maryhill the fair shake that it probably deserved. There seemed to be a lot of fishermen judging by the number of water craft on trailers. I'd expect this would be a great spot for kite surfers, windsurfers, and boaters. It was also early April when we visited so no swimming for us. There was a fair amount of noise from trucks and trains throughout the night.

We went for a nice little stroll down along the river and enjoyed a quick visit to the nearby Stonehenge.
