The Field Camp is a very private spot [the MOST private spot on the Farm] at the end of the field, hidden from view from the rest of the farm, that can accommodate lots of people comfortably with a fire ring and access to an outhouse.

We have, after some experimentation, chosen to prioritize conservation of the land over ease of access. What this means for you is that you are IN nature, not in a parking lot, when you camp. This also means you cannot park at the site and will have to walk in with your gear.

There are only 3 possible sites on the 65 acre farm to camp so you will feel as if the land is yours alone. [although you might cross paths on the trail or at the river]

The Field is listed as two site but that is only so a larger group can book. You will not share this space with unknown campers!

All of our sites are walk in and again, this means woods and field, not roads or hard packed parking lots. We provide folding carts that you can use to bring gear to your site,  a beautiful 10 min walk from parking.

There are 65 acres of woods and field**, on the Tye River [walk through the woods or 1.5 mile walk down the road or drive/bicycle to good swim holes] close to the Blue Ridge Mountains, breweries, wineries, and a Whisky Distillery! ..as well as orchards near by.

The amount of wildlife is amazing, and camping out in the field gives you a fabulous experience, sitting by a fire listening  to 3 kinds of owls hooting, coyotes singing, or Whippoorwills or Woodcocks in the Spring, or if you are lucky you'll hear a bobcat or catch the turkeys doing their mating dance! Loads of deer, fox, rabbits, an occasional black bear passing through and hundreds of species of song birds, and raptors.

We are far from a city so the night sky is breath-taking on a clear night, and the Field site is perfect for star gazing.

The river is EXCELLENT for canoeing and kayaking and fishing. There is a terrific 4 mile run with an easy put in and take out [that runs by the farm at mile 2].

Or, bring tubes [or rent from us!] and throw your tubes in to the river from the farm and do the best part of the float on the river!  [leave a car at the bridge or walk the 1.5 miles back up]

I am smitten with this area and am an avid hiker, cycler and motorcyclist, and always happy to share my knowledge of local roads, trails, swimming holes and places to eat and drink.

**PLEASE note that as I mention this is a FIELD and WOODS.. NOT a "camp ground" .. the grass grows high.. the grass gets cut.. We ebb and flow with nature here, you are sharing our backyard and we hope you will love it as we do.

Stephanie’s property is amazing. The scenery is beautiful, and the campsite was perfect for our group. Stephanie is also an amazing host, very kind and generous to share her land with those that respect nature.

Stephanie cares for her land very well, it was fun getting to talk to her about her hopes and dreams for the site! I felt welcomed as soon as she walked up. The field was a nice place to set up camp, lots of flat ground. There were also lots of activities available including a hike in the woods and incredible river access if you wanted to tube, kayak, or fish. There isn’t car access, and there’s a bit of a walk to get to the campsite, but she has wagons to carry your gear in.

Stephanie was an amazing host with a breathtakingly beautiful farm. She had a fire set up waiting for us when we got there, which takes a little bit of the pressure off the load in/ camp set up process. The site had easy access to trails to explore, the Tye River, and massive starlit skies. If you have the time, definitely go tubing! The two mile float was the perfect length and definitely our favorite part of the trip. After check out we took advantage of the proximity to (in my opinion) the best hiking spots in Virginia and hiked the Priest near Crabtree Falls. We are already so excited to plan a trip back!

Staying at Twin Poplar Farms was a fantastic experience and before our group even left we were already making plans to return. The field campsite is an accessible distance to both the parking area and the outhouse and the fireflies and stars at night are amazing. The river is a hike down but well worth it for the scenery and refreshing water (we did not get an opportunity but the river is definitely well suited for tubing).
Stephanie is an excellent host and we made great use of her hiking recommendations. She provided water jugs, gear carts, and affordable firewood that made camping a breeze. I would absolutely recommend this campsite for any family or group looking for a fun camping weekend where water and outdoor activities abound.

Take the path past the barn and outhouse to reach the campsite. Beautiful secluded spot at the end of the field.View from the parking area.

It was our second time staying there! Obviously, we love the place! It has everything we need -, peace, silence, starry nights, trail hike and a river too. We saw different wildlife there, from a skunk to deer to little bugs. Our campsite was in a middle of a wildflower field that our daughter also adores so much. Our camp there was really nice and we might probably come back there again and again!

Stephanie was very accommodating to my last minute reservation due to a cancellation at a local campground. She was very responsive to my continued emails/texts and her property met my expectations. She also checked to see if I arrived safely and inquired if I needed anything. I would recommend to others as well.

Twin Poplar Farm is an absolute gem and we will be back. My friends and our young kids all got together for a socially-distant weekend to camp and reunite having not seen each other since pre-COVID. Stephanie's property is stunning. The field is huge and beautiful. The moon and stars were gorgeous, and the simplicity and beauty of everything is just what we needed after hectic months at home adapting to COVID life. We made good use of the fire pit, loved exploring the property and the trail to the Tye River, and really appreciated how responsive Stephanie was. Outside of enjoying the property, we hiked Spy Rock and had a meal at Blue Mountain Barrel House - both are highly-recommended! Wish we had a couple more days to do more, but we will be back!

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful two night stay at the farm. Stephanie greeted us as we were arriving and gave us great recommendations for hikes and orchards around the area. If you’re looking for solitude I would recommend this place. It was quiet and very close to the Tye river; an easy 10 min walk through the woods. The necessary was easily accessible and environmentally constructed. Really no need to bring any wood, there’s plenty of down trees along the perimeter that we easily broke and took to the fire pit which was a beautiful ring of reddish quartz. I would recommend getting there before sunset to forage for your kindling. As far as covid is concerned I would also say this would be a good place to camp with your friends and still remain socially distanced. Thank you so much Stephanie!

David, it was great to have you all! Come back when it's warmer and you can enjoy the river. The kids will love the beach! In part because of you guys we've been working on the trails [trying to get them more kid friendly!]

We had a great time camping in the field next to the campfire! Stephanie and her son were very helpful when we first arrived. It rained all weekend unfortunately but we had a lean-to that proved to be a game changer. The trees were just starting to turn, and the rainy/foggy view of the field towards the barn was absolutely serene. Would definitely consider returning again on a clear night to see the amazing starry sky.
