Description

It must be opposite day every day at Boley Fields Group Campground—here in the heart of Virginia’s Jefferson National Forest, the main attractions are Poverty Creek and Poverty Trail, both of which provide no shortage of recreation opportunities. Easily accessible from Boley Field, the 17-mile path offers hikers and mountain bikers a taste of the famed Appalachian Trail, while the creek provides a chance to fish or cool off in the region’s balmy summer humidity. Reservations are required for this 50 person group site at the base of Brush Mountain, a perfect spot for those wanting to rough it in a low-amenity environment. You’ll want to bring your own drinking water, and count on being off the grid (and your iPhone) for a few days. To re-up on supplies, head in to nearby Blacksburg, VA, a college town with plenty of hip coffee shops and bars.
