The Meadows at Chigger Creek

I cannot begin to express what kindness and generosity we were met with on our first camping trip to Chigger Creek! Kirsten and Dale are by far some of the greatest people out there.
We had some hiccups with our camper and they were always there to lend a helping hand or support in some way.
The location is wonderful! We stayed at campsite 2 and it couldn’t have been any better. It had a changing room and two large tables set up for eating, a fire pit, and a charcoal grill there all ready to use.
The beach area has lots of toys for the kids to stay busy, and 2 kayaks/2 canoes for the older ones.
The views and serenity will not disappoint. Highly recommend going ahead booking a site at Meadows of Chigger Creek. We’re already planning our next visit:)

This was our first Hipcamp trip and my husband and I had an amazing weekend at the Meadows at Chigger Creek. The lake is gorgeous and the fishing was fantastic as well. We couldn't have asked for better hosts than Kirstin and Dale they made us feel like family. They were attentive from the time we arrived including bringing a bag of treats for our dog. They opened up their land and hearts for our fur baby and let her run free and swim like it was her own. They have plenty of kayaks and canoes to keep you busy as well as sandy beaches, ample firewood and a camp kitchen. We hated to have to pack up and leave this morning and look forward to visiting again!

We loved the experience so much we booked another day, and Kirstin took us on a hike through the falling leaves and along the stream while she told us about the history of the property. It is such a special place, and we were honored to share it.

We were sent off with some home baked banana bread and homemade dog treats. What a gem. Thank you, Kirstin, we will be back.

This was one of our favorite spots, and we’ve toured most of the country in our RV. Kirstin was a gracious host, allowing our same day booking and arrival after dark. She met us at the edge of the property to guide us in, and gave us perfect directions on how to get there. We met some of her family when we checked in, and everyone was very friendly.

Our spot overlooked the lake and had electrical and water, which is so helpful! They have twinkle lights at night, a huge firepit, and an amazing ambience.

I love photography, and the sunsets and reflections on the lake were picture perfect. The tranquility continued with birds chirping, and the crickets in chorus. Saw some deer in the woods.

Such a lovely property! The view of the lake is surreal. Relaxing canoe rides help calm the city mind. Wish we could have stayed longer. Kirstin and her husband were helpful and kind. Hope to be back again soon!

This place has so much potential! While the hosts were very friendly, they just seem like they either must be relatively new to Hipcamp or to hosting in general based on other reviews and our time there. It is run a bit more like a formal campground rather than your typical Hipcamp site. This place would be good for folks who are extroverted/ if you're a people person, but my brother and I are pretty introverted and usually go camping looking for solace.
The day we got there they greeted us with a great little info packet and banana bread! The rest of that day was a bit chaotic. They had their grandkids there who kept to themselves but were quite lively, as kids are, and there was not a lot of peace and quiet. Their family lives around the lake and a family member's dog got loose and came through our campsite and just barked at us. The host eventually came out and gathered him up and said he usually just sniffs around and then leaves (something to note if you're bringing our own dog). The dog somehow found his way back to our campsite a second time and was barking at us again. Eventually, he calmed down and wandered off and back into our site one more time after that. Later, his owner drove over from his side of the lake up to our site and asked if we saw the dog's leash and the hosts came out to assist the owner. This would not normally be a problem except my brother and I are pretty dog-averse. No ill-will, we just don't care for them. The next day the hosts came by again in the AM (around 9) - we just got out of the tent and I was in my PJs. Again not a problem if you are a people person. My brother and I ended up leaving for the day and ate at the Route 1 Country Store (5/5 highly recommend!) then spent the day fishing at Pochahontas State Park (also 5/5 recommend!). When we got back we finally worked up the courage to look for the canoes/ kayaks to use since they appeared to be no longer surrounded by kids/ the hosts. Hard to tell where things were/would be as there was quite a lot of stuff all over the property and we were at site 2 which was a bit further away from the house. When we got out into the lake with a canoe, it was AMAZING! We caught a few Large Mouths, saw a beaver, a raptor, geese, and I think a heron! Saturday evening was a lot more peaceful! So quiet!
As for logistics, there were two great options in site 2 alone for tent camping as the ground was level and free of roots/ rocks. Having the toilet to ourselves was also very nice. We did not have to ask the hosts to start a fire for us contrary to previous reviews. We started our own each night and morning and the wood was dry and plenteous! They have cute string lights (in site 2 anyways) that you can choose the brightness of or turn off/on altogether. A table with chairs and two tanning chairs in the beach portion of site 2 as well as a charcoal grill.
Things being close to the house plus so many unexpected visits from people and a pup are not bad things! Just not our cup of tea for a weekend of solitude.

Our first impression was concern but I am glad we took time to settle in. The lake is beautiful and the area is very quiet. There is a house just next to the campsite but the hosts started and amazing fire and left us to have a great time.

The hosts were very friendly and we're polite and attentive without being overwhelming at all. We had a great time fishing and going out on the lake in kayaks.

Waking up on the lake with mist floating above the water and birds singing in the trees was a fantastic refreshing experience. We will be visiting this site again. Had a great time.

Kirstin and her husband Dale are gracious hosts and make you feel at home on their gorgeous waterfront campsite. We stayed at site 2 and we couldn’t have been happier with the experience. The campsite is larger and more private than what you get at most state parks. The fire pit is huge and they provide more than enough wood to keep the campfire going. My son and I went with his best friend and his dad who taught us all how to fish. We must have caught a combined total of more than 30 fish (we threw them all back in)! Please consider staying here if you’re looking for a peaceful, serene camping and fishing weekend away to recharge.

Beautiful, relaxing, and wonderfully welcoming!! All the amenities you could want for a weekend by a lake. We loved the canoes, lake views, and all the birdwatching. It was exactly the weekend away we were hoping for. Thanks for the great experience!
