We fell in love with this campsite! The Milky Way was in full view right after the sunset and we had what felt like the entire area to ourselves.

There wasnt another person in sight for atleast a mile in each direction.

The views of the sunset were over the hill were perfect and the site was just what you needed to feel safe in your tent for the night.

The only downside is the horse flies! Make sure you bring citronella. That really helped for us.

My dog Kai and I had the most magical stay in this little shelter. Not too far from both Big Bend National Park and state park. I would absolutely stay here again.

Very happy with our stay at the Sky Ranch South Shelter! Easy access to the main road and Big Bend park entrance. We stayed for 3 nights, and it was nice being the only people out there. The host offered clear directions beforehand. No issues locating the site. Unforgettable sunsets and sunrises, and the stars were unbelievable. Conditions were right our first night that we could see the milky way so clearly! The shelter is a great size to fit a range of tents, and it really helps with the wind. The chairs, picnic tables, tea lights, and hanging posts for lanterns were all helpful features of the site as well.

Overall I had a good stay, there were a few things I would have preferred to be different. In the directions you’re instructed to make a left at reflective poles with a sign attached. I arrived in the dark, and there is a dwelling on the left, with reflective poles and a sign, before the Sky Ranch entrance. I went down that way and got slightly panicked in the dark. Found my way eventually though👍
Also in the photos they have lanterns and lights for the shelter but my lights were not connected to electricity sadly.
Depending on the time you visit, (if around the new moon) you will see fantastic views of the stars and even the Milky Way in the middle of the night. Absolutely breathtaking!

Exactly as advertised. Be prepared for peace and quiet and beautiful starry nights if the weather is clear. All good.

Really thankful for the shelter and the host’s warning that one of our nights was going to be high winds - it truly was high winds. We pitched the tent on the shelter to use the shelter for protection and still had to tie the rain fly down using extra rope through the wooden plats of the base. Wasn’t pretty, but it worked. Great stars, great location. Would stay again.

This was a nice stay, wish we could've booked it for the entire time we were in the Big Bend area. This is the place to be, specially with the amount of wind that runs through the area.

Fantastic area! The shelter is adorable and served its purpose of keeping us out of the wind. It is far enough away from the parks to avoid crowds of people. The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful.
