Welcome to the Cibolo Gardens Nature Preserve! Just 22 miles from downtown San Antonio, not far off of US 281, our educational homestead is a unique place to treat yourself to a night or two of glamorous camping and pampering.

There is such a strong need right now for people to get out of the house to unwind and do so responsibly.  Spending time outside in a natural, safe environment is one of the best ways and we offer a comfortable, beautiful space for that.  Covid19 has presented a challenge for all of us in becoming hyper-aware of the need for doing everything we can to stop the spread of the Cornavirus.  We are vigilant about sanitizing surfaces and having guest guidelines for safe-distancing while staying with us.  We're also confident that you'll feel comfortable with our safety measures while you forget the world for a while and lose yourself in the sunsets, the woods and with Chef Brandi's meals.

Our 19 foot diameter, 11 foot tall and luxuriously-furnished bell tent is just what you want to have the comforts of a resort while nestled in our south woods watching your own private sunset.  During cold nights, there's no getting cold in this tent!  We have a deluxe Olympian Wave propane heater to keep you warm during the fall/ winter season.  Bring your own food if you like, but we recommend the "pampered program" with Chef Brandi's gourmet breakfasts.  (Her pancakes are absolutely amazing.)  The tent itself is all yours with a queen-sized bed that sleeps two, a futon couch (that folds out into a bed if you have one or two additional guests), cedar chest coffee table, rocking chair, a solar-charged battery for lights/ fans/ phone charging, a full refreshment oasis with fresh water and coffee/ tea service.  Plus - a back patio with your own personal chiminea for enjoying the warmth of the fire and cooking your complimentary s'mores.

When you arrive, you'll be welcomed by our Host, given a quick tour and then escorted to your bell tent where we invite you take a little time to settle in.  If you've ordered breakfast for the following morning, let us know what time you'd like Chef Brandi to bring it to your tent. You can prepare the food you brought with you anytime in our outdoor community kitchen.  [We do ask that you please plan on checking in before 8pm or sunset, whichever comes first.]

Your canvas tent is a very short walk to all of our amenities, including the compost toilet, outdoor cob shower, filtered rain water stations (for drinking), outdoor kitchen (with full sink, propane stove/ oven/ grill, prep tables, utensils and pots/ pans), swimming pool, hammocks and classroom (where we invite you to enjoy our library, board games and WiFi).  Additionally, there are multiple potable (drinking safe) well-water stations throughout the property.

While at Cibolo Gardens, up near the campground area, you are likely to see our multiple gardens, a chicken or two cluck by, rabbits, pigs, ducks, our two dogs and the cat.  When you venture into the Nature Preserve, you'll want to look for deer, armadillo, porcupine, opossum, wild pigs and any number of birds (including our Grey Herron).  Also, be on the lookout for spectacular sunsets.

Feel free to simply relax in the shade of the persimmon and juniper trees. Or, to add some activity to your stay, hike the varying terrain on our 45 acres, hunt for fossils in the dry creek bed, break out your tree & plant id books, or watch the wildlife (even if it’s just the chickens).  Refresh by taking a dip in the above ground pool, or wash off in the outdoor cob shower.  [Please be advised that besides campers, we also host homesteading, wilderness survival & herbal medicine classes on our site.  So, there may be some company in some of the community areas, but you'll definitely have your own space for privacy. ]

If you want to explore more Hill Country, nearby attractions for outdoor fun include the Guadalupe River State Park (16mi) or Natural Bridge Cavern (17mi).

We loved our stay here - perfect for my husband, our three year old, and myself. The ability to lay low and hibernate or engage with the folks on the property is great - we did the homestead tour and added on firewood and (delicious) breakfasts both days. I had a million questions leading up to our trip (it was summer with a toddler!) and they was super prompt with responses and made me feel totally comfortable to reach out with anything I needed. I’ve already recommended this place to friends and hope to return again soon!

We had a really good time at Glowing Tents. If you are afraid to go camping or don’t have the equipment, this is a great way to test the waters without buying a tent. The owner, David, was great in answering all of my questions and addressing our covid related concerns before we got there. And once we arrive we had Cris as our host. Cris was awesome! He welcomed us, gave us a tour of the surroundings to get us set up, and since we paid for the Fossil Tour and the Living of the Land Tour we had the pleasure of chatting with him for a little bit all three days. It was really nice to have someone that is knowledgeable, and also very attentive to detail. The few times I texted he always answered right away.

In terms of the tent, it was super big, with a comfy queen size bed inside and a hammock right outside. There was also a futon but we didn’t open it up. The tent had clean towels, a bathrobe, flip flops for the shower, a battery to charge the phones, lights, flashlights, and two battery powered fans (Cris made sure to replace all batteries every morning). The tent also had water, cups, tea, coffee and a coffee press. Our host would bring us a bottle of hot water in the morning and would leave it in the table behind the tent. That was a really nice set up, there was a table with chairs, and a really cool Mexican Chimenea for making a fire at night, which was my favorite part of the evening. The chairs around the table were not very sturdy, but hopefully they will find a way to fix them before the next guests arrive. It really is a very nice set up apart from the wiggling chairs.

Perhaps our favorite part was Chef Brandi’s breakfast. Every morning hot breakfast was delivered to the table behind the tent. And while we didn’t know what it would be, every day the breakfast was absolutely superb! You can tell that it’s made with love and care. First day we had scrambled eggs with pepper, and pancakes, fruit and orange juice. Second day we had a beautiful fruit parfait with a super tasty and warm butter croissant. The third morning we had scrambled eggs with potatoes, black beans, tortillas to make breakfast tacos and orange juice. Really, breakfast exceeded all if our expectations and it was yummy every time.

I think this is a great spot. My daughter’s favorite part was visiting the farm animals.

We're happy to have you back again anytime! Thank you for alerting us about the chairs so we could get them fixed.

Our family had a lovely stay as we were looking for a needed breakaway from the city. Cris welcomed us so kindly, showing us all the amenities and giving us a brief history of the property. Even though we only stayed for one night, it was awesome to have both the open field kitchen and classroom available at our leisure. Our tent was spacious and beautifully decorated. They went above and beyond providing blankets, towels, robes, and flip-flops. Only note I would make is that there are dogs on the property though they are as friendly as can be. Though our trip was short, we all enjoyed and would definitely book again!

We had a great time and plan on coming back when we can spend more time (we were off with family the entire day Saturday). My daughter (4) really loved seeing the animals and taking a shower in the outdoor shower. I really enjoyed the coffee bar in the tent and just enjoying our time in nature. I do wish the toilet was a little closer to the tent, but my issue was largely due to the fact that it was just me and my daughter and I often had to use the restroom either after she fell asleep or before she woke up and I didn't want her to wake up alone in the tent and get scared. The tent was within eyesight of the toilet, though. Now just to convince my sister to bring her boys and join us next time!
They really did think of everything. I overpacked and didn't need much of what we brought.

This spot is magical! The hosts are wonderful—friendly and welcoming. We were given a tour when we arrived then shown to our tent, which had everything we might need for a pleasant stay. There were soft, fluffy robes laid out for us along with a sweet treat. :) The food was great and the whole place just had a relaxed, happy vibe. We’ll definitely be back.

It’s very conveniently located, especially if you’re planning a visit to Natural Bridge Caverns.
