We had a great time camping under the trees on the ranch. Took a short hike up the Mesa and watched the dogs herd cattle. We purchased a couple of steaks from Lana that were to die for ❤️ It's a peaceful slice of heaven out there.
I adored staying at Lone Ranch. It was a stunning property and grounds. I was so relaxed and enjoyed the haven so much I didn’t want to leave.
I did however visit nearby Madrid and listened to live music and visited some of the boutiques.
Wonderful stay with a. Wonderful host
Absolutely a place to camp!
I read another review that said this place was bucket list camping, and after staying WE AGREE! It was peaceful, open, entertaining (Coyotes ) and the night sky is a view to see. Hosts were responsive and helpful, even last minute. We’ll definitely be back.
Lana’s place was 100% what we were looking for on our overnight stay. We enjoyed the serenity and solitude overlooking the hilltop and our dog roamed and sniffed to her hearts content. Was fun to literally hear the cows come home and some local wildlife as we ate dinner by the fire we made and stared at the stars. Bonus was purchasing a few fresh steaks off Lana as we packed up the next morning! Recommend for those looking to embrace nature.
Harvest moon on the mesa
We had the best experience! We arrived about 9 pm and were greeted and shown to our tent site. It was a Harvest Moon over the Mesa and just gorgeous. In the morning we made a fire with the wood provide ready to go in the fire pit and watched the sun come up as 4 horses were running by in the distance. Perfection!
Perfect remote site
Lone Mound Ranch was an amazing site, so much so that we decided to stay an extra night. Lana was very accommodating and welcoming, even going out of her way to make change for the delicious burgers she provided. We camped on the mesa with our off road teardrop and got great views and a constant breeze. We also got lovely visits from the grazing cows. We will definitely be back!
Great safe camping with sweet cows
Lana was super welcoming and communicative with all of our questions. We were able to explore the ranch and had our choice of campsite. We slept up on a Mesa to enjoy the cool wind. The view was absolutely beautiful the cows were hilarious and entertaining. The space was very clean did not find any litter. Also it felt very safe. The sunrise was really perfect. Definitely would stop and camp here again when driving across the country. A gem of a place hidden in the vastness of Texas.
Bucket list primitive camping...
I booked at Lone Mound Ranch on a whim and last minute. Wasn't sure if anything would be available. Lana responded quickly and approved my stay. Her personal response was unexpected, and very welcomed in a world of "form letter responses". I very much enjoyed my brief one night stay, and will absolutely book again for a longer trip. The site I chose was not too far from the the front gate, but I never heard any road noise and livestock roams freely about. I love primitive camping and my site was just that. A fire ring and a large pre-cast concrete block were the only things on that site. It was perfect. Put Lone Mound Ranch camping on your bucket list... it's a must do.
