Our cabin was built completely by us and is off grid, using solar panels for electricity (we do have power at night (but no AC) from batteries), filtered rain water, and a wood stove for heat. It is situated amongst 37 acres in the Hill Country of Texas and is the perfect retreat into nature for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Our front and roof decks offer miles of view of the Hill Country, overlooking Blanco River Valley, and sunsets here are truly magic

The space

***This is not a party house. We are on 100% solar power, so A.C. IS LIMITED. If it's a sunny day, A.C. will come on around 11a.m.-12 noon. It will turn off during heavy cloud cover and every evening around 6-6:30pm. THERE IS NO A.C. AT NIGHT. I'm using all caps to help make it clear but message me if you have more questions! ***

Since we're in the Texas country, there's a chance you may hear gunshots from neighbors during your stay. It's very sporadic and doesn't last long, but we want to be as transparent as possible!

Our off-grid cabin was designed and built by my husband Eugene and myself (we live in another cabin about 200 feet away from this one). A privacy fence between our home and this cabin creates a secluded experience. It was constructed with minimal waste and about 80% of all furnishings are antique, vintage, or second hand. The cabin is located on top of a hill, up a mile long gravel driveway. We put our heart and souls into the design and construction of this cabin and we hope you feel that when you stay here! We also have a listing called Off Grid Private Campsite with Airstream, if you're interested.

Electricity is provided by a 7200 W solar system (panels are on the roof of our home) and can be used for anything except heating elements (iron, hair dryer, curling iron, toasters, etc-unless the sun is fully out-) There is power at night, provided by deep cycle batteries that are charged by the sun during the day. There are several wall outlets situated in the cabin. A 1500 gallon rain water collection tank sits behind the cabin and provides it with filtered drinking/shower water. We have AC for use during the day but it cannot be run at night. AC will turn off automatically if cloud cover is too strong.

The kitchen is fully functional with a small fridge, large sink, 2 burner gas stovetop, dining table, organic coffee/tea (French press coffee maker). It's fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, utensils, salt, pepper, coconut oil, and some other spices. We also have a charcoal grill.

The bathroom has a lovely shower that uses filtered rain water and a unique composting toilet design that blends in with the rest of the cabin.

We do have a wood stove for cold days and nights. We provide wood and instructions.

There is no WIFI here, but there is a strong cell signal with most providers. The library in town has WIFI if you find yourself in need. The idea is that you come here to retreat into nature, to purposefully disconnect, from social media and also from WIFI signals, power lines, etc.

We have a backyard fire pit for you to use as long as a burn-ban isn't in effect. You must bring your own wood for the fire pit. We do provide wood for the woodstove inside the cabin. There is a sky deck that is perfect for sunrise and sunset viewings.

There is a private trail that begins in the backyard and weaves through the woods on the property, if you're interested. Please don't wander far off trail as you may be trespassing.

We are a pet and child free cabin.

Since this is Texas, you may come across fire ants, scorpions, snakes, and other bugs and critters during your stay

Other things to note

Our driveway is gravel and rough in spots. You'll need to drive it slowly and carefully but luckily the scenery is beautiful!

This was our first booking through Hipcamp and we were super pleased with everything about this place. Marlena was very detailed with directions on how to get there. The cabin was most definitely off grid! It almost makes you not want to leave. We'll be back soon :)

Great cabin with very hospitable hosts. It was very cozy and the attention to detail was wonderful, you can tell it was made with love. I was a little surprised the hosts house was so close by, it wasn't a bother at all, we just weren't expecting that and moreso a cabin by itself. But it takes a level of trust to allow someone to stay so close to your home, and honestly, it made it even more humbling. Overall it was a great stay and i would recommend it to anyone looking to get away

Marlena was the kindest host. The cabin is beautiful and well designed! The wood stove was warming the cool fall air when we arrived, and kept us cozy for the whole visit. There was plenty of wood for feeding the fire, and the outside fire pit was also setup with wood, which we spent a large part of the day sitting around, while camp cooking and star watching. The shower was warm, there was plenty of water for dishes, cooking, and coffee, and the doing your business bathroom system was simple and clean. The screened in porch was a good place to set out an afternoon picnic, and deck was a nice spot for nature watching. We walked on the trail, forest bathed, and thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated everything about this special off the grid cabin. It was a wonderful place! Limestone, fossils, shells, grasses, cedar, live oaks, an armadillo, two whitetail deer, and other hill country flora and fauna are here, too.

Thank you so much for the lovely review! And thanks for respecting the land and our cabin!! (Unfortunately hosts only have 3 days to review campers and Hipcamp doesn't send us an email reminder so that ship sailed without me, but y'all were wonderful to host and we hope you come back!!)

I've booked many homes and campsites through AirBnb, Homeaway, and Hipcamp through the years and this was by FAR the best experience I've ever had.

I booked the cabin as a surprise weekend getaway for my partners birthday. Marlena went above and beyond to make the weekend special - even going as far as to pick up the flowers I ordered from the local florist.

The mile drive up their driveway is a beautiful scenic experience in itself. Marlena greeted us as soon as we arrived, ensuring that we make ourselves at home and feel free to explore the property. The cabin was much larger than I anticipated - perhaps it was the high ceilings or clever use of space. All the kitchen and bathroom essentials were available, as well as some lovely extras like coffee, tea, and beautifully smelling natural soaps. You can tell there was a lot of thought put into every detail of the space - down to the lighters placed next to every candle/bundle of sage.

We had plans to explore the surrounding town, but the property was so beautiful and inviting we couldn't bring ourselves to leave! If possible, I suggest you add on the tour of the property - Marlena drove us around their land in an offroad vehicle, telling us of its history and stopping to show us special places along the way. There is truly something magical about this place - I highly recommend and will be back very soon.
