The property is about 8 miles from Bastrop State Park's trails and swimming pool, 10 miles to the Colorado River and kayak rental and Bastrop's restaurants. We are near many antique stores and the Round Top antique fair. The Sherwood Forest Faire site is only 6 miles away.
Be aware: Please be on the lookout for scorpions and snakes during your visit. Though they are less active during the cooler months, there are still snakes and scorpions on the property so please be aware, keep a close eye on children and pets, and most importantly -- watch your step.

Best place to propose!
MAGICAL! I took my partner here to propose, and just booked it again for our honeymoon. It's the most relaxing place I've ever been. It was delightful hanging out on the balcony overlooking the pond and listening to the frogs, enjoying the fire pit, cooking breakfast on the grill...and the bed was so comfortable! Jim was a terrific host. He gave us a tour of the property, and we meant to take one of the walking trails, but we so enjoyed the isolation at the treehouse that three nights just flew by. The Hobbit's Nest is definitely our happy place!
Wonderful and secluded fantastic!
We barely even ran into James. He was friendly and introduced us to the dogs and we visited for a bit and exchanged pleasantries. The perfect host.
Hobbit's Nest was fantastic. We had excellent cell phone connections, but we barely noticed it. We were close to civilization, and we barely noticed that either.
The night sky was absolutely wonderful. It was dark enough to see more stars than I have seen in a VERY long time. At night the noises of an owl (or maybe a young sasquatch) hooting, and raccoons chittering about, but not being seen. It was so quiet and peaceful, quite honestly it was the best night's sleep I have had in quite a while.
I highly recommend Hobbit's Nest. There is more character in that little treehouse than most folks have ever seen.
Idyllic and magical
It was amazing! The Hobbit's Nest was idyllic and magical. My husband and I stayed there for just one night because it was fully booked for months. Eventhough we were there for just one night, it was wonderful! From the amazing architecture of the tree house to being surrounded by nature to the most whimsical little details. Oh, and the star gazing at night was just like right out of a movie! We will definitely come back.
Fantastic hideaway, wonderful area!
We could not recommend the Hobbit's Nest enough! From the communication the moment we booked, until the end of our stay, James and Sandy were so warm and welcoming. The Nest itself was a wonder to see, and fun to spend time in, as were the surrounding areas (Paige/Bastrop). We celebrated our 10-year anniversary here, and it will be one to remember. We saw 3 deer on the property, and on a clear night the stars were incredible! Thank you again for having us!
So beautiful! Sunsets at this place are especially magical. Jim and Sandy went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, we cannot wait to come back! We would love to explore the 40 acres, definitely give yourself enough time to explore the property!
