Beautiful working cattle ranch 8 miles north of historic Vernon, Texas. Red River, Doan's Crossing, Red River Valley Museum, historic Waggoner Ranch all call this area home. 3 hours from Amarillo, Dallas/Ft. Worth, OK City. 28 miles from Red River which separates OK from TX. Enjoy the peace and serenity of primitive camping at your choice of pastures - near winding intermittent creek, along banks of ponds, on the hillside or among the prairie grasses. The owner's home is centrally located on the property, in case of emergencies. If campers are hauling their own horses, there are pens available on the home site for an nominal extra fee/night. Campers must provide own horse feed/hay and a current Coggins test must be provided for each horse. Pasture grazing is available (hobbled if possible). Campsite is subject to nearby grazing cattle - depending on where the camper chooses. MANY miles (dirt/paved) of back road exploration, horseback riding, walking, biking.... Located directly on the "trail" (Great Western Trail) that cattle drives used to take cattle from South Texas to points north to sale/rail. Mostly flat with some rolling elevation, grassland, farmland, ranch land. Secluded, spiritual, inspiring for writers/artists, slow paced, peaceful...Campers can park at home site - no limit of vehicles - and walk to site or be transported by owner, or depending on where they choose to camp, they can drive to it. Camping numbers/sites are adjustable with each group. We're very flexible and willing to work with our campers.

Natural features you'll find at Arrowhead Hill Tent Camping in Texas.
We live on the Texas plains. Flat with some elevation, few trees, winding creek, grasslands.
We farm grass for the cattle.
This is a working cattle ranch and camping is available in pastures.
If you stayed here and have some insider info for us, let us know!
We took our group of 13 teens, 2 adults, and our dog for one night. Absolutely loved by all. The firewood option was a game changer. The site was the only thing visible besides the homeowner’s house in the distance. Would definitely go again. Thank you Su!
What a peaceful stop on our journey! Su was a fantastic host, greeting us and guiding us to our site. The farm was quiet and serene. Our boys enjoyed wading in the pond, playing in the mud and exploring the creek. Our puppy was “living his best life” as he swam and explored along side us. Although a hot evening, we enjoyed relaxing, and the hum of frogs as we drifted to sleep.
What a fantastic camp site! Su was wonderful, friendly, and inviting. We had a brief delay as Su and her fiance' moved some cows into another pasture to clear our site, which added to our sense of adventure.... our 8 year old was thrilled! There were a few horses left in the pasture, and they kept their distance, but at one point walked to about 50 feet away from our tent. The sunset was splendid, and we got the sense of isolation we were looking for. The night sky was clear for us that night, and our daughter saw the Milky Way!
We couldn't have asked for a better first HipCamp experience. We highly recommend Arrowhead Hill Tent Camping and our host, Su!
Private and peacful
This was our first stay at a hipcamp site and it was perfect. Su was so nice, she greeted us upon arrival, guided us to our site and gave us a goodie bag! It was a perfect, clear night to enjoy the stars. We felt very comfortable and plan on staying again in the future.
This was the second time I stayed here, and brought a buddy this time. We had a great stay. Su was super welcoming and even had a fire going when we arrived which was so nice because it was in the 30's! Thanks again Su, we'll be stopping by next time we head out to the Panhandle.
I loved my stay at arrowhead hill ranch! I felt safe and secure on Su's property yet it felt very private as well. The campsite is beautiful and I loved getting to see the land, animals, and the STARS! Highly recommend this campsite - especially because Su was such a sweet host.
Perfect night under the stars!!
Wonderful experience on a ranch far far from anything and a wonderful host!
Camped 1 night to watch the Perseads shower and see the Milky Way. Arrived after dark and on the road by 8am before the 100 degree day! Su accommodated all of this and answered a ton of my questions before we booked. Su was so welcoming and gave ALL of us ice cold drinks as we pulled up after a long drive. She led us to the recommended campsite, but told us we could camp wherever we wanted.
Directions: dirt roads and creek crossings. GPS and Su got us there on first try!
Terrain: We had a larger SUV pulling a flat trailer and a small car type SUV. The terrain was fine for both.
Campsite: Big flat area for tents or as we did, blow up bed, cots, and hammocks on stands. Good fire pit. Creek was dry (as expected in August), but there was some water in the pond the dogs could drink. My dog was off leash the whole time with no issue.
Heard lots of coyotes. Had a surprising lack of bugs to deal with! Was greeted in the morning by two beautiful mates.
Dark sky: If you go for the stars, camp down in the bowl by the pond. Still a good breeze, but the ridge kept the red lights from the wind farm out of site. There is a small airport with a moving spot light to the west, but it was a minor interference.. darksitefinder.com blue area. Dark enough to see the Milky Way clearly, but no color. Great night breeze due to being so open.
Thanks so much to Su and her husband for sharing your beautiful land with us and your joyful welcome! I want to come back when there is water in flowing in the creek!
