Welcome to Moccasin Bend Campsite at Plentiful Hill!

Several generations ago, this spot on the property was nicknamed “Moccasin Bend” in homage to the famous peninsula in Chattanooga...the similarities are stunning. :D Less than an hour from Nashville, this site is for people who really want an “away from everything” camping experience. While Moccasin Bend is right off the Big Loop Trail, it is far from the road and activities of the homeplace; for most people, this campsite will probably feel pretty isolated. (**Check out our other campsites for other options.**)

Accessing Moccasin Bend requires crossing two small creek crossings and driving off road on a *mostly* flat path for about a half mile. Decent vehicle clearance is a must for the creek crossings, and 4x4 during the rainy season (usually late fall, winter, early spring) is essential. Moccasin Bend is a large, shaded site surrounded by trees. The seasonal creek runs the length of the site which provides lots of opportunities for exploration. There is instant access to the Big Loop Trail and a short walk to the Buckeye Hill Trail. A field at the base of Buckeye Hill provides an open sky for stargazing.

Moccasin Bend is perfect for up to two vehicles and three tents.

At the site:

  • Firepit
  • Circular picnic table with attached benches (seats 6 adults)
  • Toilet bucket with privacy tent if requested (must provide own liners)
  • Small wash basin
  • Property/trail maps
  • Guide books for Tennessee wildlife, birds, vegetation

To note:

  • **Ticks and chiggers will want to love on ya during the spring/summer/fall.  Make sure to bring plenty of bug spray and be prepared to do “tick checks” throughout the day.**
  • Cell service is spotty
  • Access to Moccasin Bend requires a vehicle with good ground clearance and 4x4 is essential in muddy conditions.
  • Don’t worry if you hear the occasional gunshot from neighboring properties; that’s common down in the country, especially during hunting season.
  • Our farm dogs are alert through the night, so you may hear some barking up the hill.
  • This site is very private and away from visible civilization.
  • All trash and waste MUST be packed out.
  • Dogs are welcome and must not bother the horses or goats. Please pick up and dispose of waste.

We’ve developed and are continually maintaining trails across the 375 acres of Plentiful Hill. Some of the trails are wide and open and give you great access to the beautiful pastures. Other trails are narrow and twist through the unendingly interesting woods. All trails have names and are identified with signs and posted maps. The woods trails are also marked with flags and ribbons to help you stay on track. The terrain varies from flat and open to hilly and wooded.

Bring your bike to tour around the local country roads or try your hand at riding off-road on our trails. The roads and trails are great for runners too, so plan to get your exercise in while you visit!

The Town of Chapel Hill is 10 minutes away and has a Dollar General, small grocery store, some restaurants, a laundry mat, and a few boutique shops...enough to satisfy all your needs while visiting!

Henry Horton State Park is 15 minutes south of us, and it has several playgrounds, trails, an outdoor pool in the summer, and access to the Duck River. We’re less than 30 minutes from Spring Hill and Lewisburg, less than 40 minutes from Franklin and Murfreesboro, and, surprisingly, less than 50 minutes from downtown Nashville.

    About Plentiful Hill

We are proud of our wild homeplace and love sharing its beauty and peacefulness with others! Plentiful Hill is 375 rolling acres of beautiful woods and spacious open fields on the northern outskirts of Chapel Hill, TN. It has a pond, several cedar glades, marked hiking trails, an historic family cemetery, a seasonal creek, a variety of wildlife, and Buckeye Ridge, elevation 1,112 feet. The anchor of the property, our white, two-story farmhouse, was built in 1812.

Three generations live on, love, and actively use this land. On any given day, someone in our family will invariably be riding a horse, taking a Gator ride, running/hiking the trails, or out working on property tasks. Every effort will be made to avoid your campsite area during your visit.

Plentiful Hill is a wild place. We aim to make it accessible and enjoyable to visitors, but we ultimately submit to the inescapable power, beauty, and essence of nature. Please anticipate and prepare for normal outdoor issues including bug bites, snake encounters, and severe weather.

These are difficult times for a lot of folks, and we want our property to be a safe and inviting place for people of all backgrounds. It's important to us that people of color, those in the LGBTQ+ community, and anyone else who might sometimes feel unwelcome in outdoor spaces feel especially comfortable and accepted while staying with us.

We loved this spot and will be back! Corinna and her family are excellent host. Lots of thoughtful little touches. The trails are well maintained, I love that the dogs can explore (we will be booking some Sniffspot time as well). We have discussed doing groups and reserving the whole place we liked it so much!

Corrina was a wonderful host. Prompt and easy communication. We went for a night with my two kids (6 &3yrs old). Had a great time. Corrina had some glow sticks ready for the kids for night time as well as some color packets for the fire. We hiked around the well maintained trails on the property which also had snacks in mailboxes along the way which were another hit. The campsite was very large and allowed us to kick the soccer ball around, play in the creek, and have some solitude all to ourselves. No loud camping neighbors here. Would highly recommend check this place out.

Beautiful, secluded campsite, perfect for do-it-yourselfers and those who want plenty of privacy! Jason and Corinna were some of the most welcoming & communicative hosts we've had -- I loved that he checked to make sure we saw the rainbow as we drove onto the property :) The property itself has lots of hiking/exploring opportunities. Would definitely stay here again!

I had such a wonderful experience. This was my first time using Hipcamp and I picked the perfect place! Corinna and her family were wonderful hosts and the property was gorgeous. They had firewood waiting and a trail map for hiking. I took my dogs and they had so much fun running in the fields. They even have surprise snacks along the trails, We will definitely be back!
