The site itself is an easy distance to Downtown Knoxville and an even easier access to all that South Knox's Urban Wilderness has to offer. It uniquely offers a hint of back country camping without the 25 mile hike in, a great way to test the waters for primitive camping or a an easy stop close to the city for a seasoned traveller. 🦋 🐛 🌈 🚲 ⛺️Best suited for van, car, bike, tent, and hammock camping without the frills of a KOA. During the busy season there are a handful of bookings for this area and in the offseason usually more one at a time. Bookings are for 2 people each to keep it from feeling crowded. Did not end up staying, my Bf drove in before I got there and noticed that it looked like a lot of tenters live there full time and did not feel safe. Payment is way too high for what it offers.
Avoid at all costs
Sorry to say that I cannot recommend this site. Take my advice and avoid.
We arrived with several spots open which was great as this is a first come first served site. We called the host for clarity and she answered promptly and was helpful.
We noticed some of the spots looked to be occupied by what appeared to be residents including a vehicle that appeared to be on blocks. Not very appealing.
We parked up and my wife went to the porta loo. This was unusable. The bowl was full, we mean FULL of excrement.
We jumped in the car and left. End of story. I would recommend the host looks to improve the facilities before advertising this site.
We loved camping in this area, it was nice and lowkey, and overall relaxing. We stayed two nights and had a lot of fun! However, there was a lot of traffic coming in and out of the campsite throughout all hours of the 2nd night we stayed, making a lot of noise due to the gravel road.
