Welcome to Molalla Ripple!
Enjoy the sound of the Molalla River rolling over the rocks. Wake up to birds chirping and tall trees swaying in the breeze. The campsites are sixty feet apart for privacy and one path leads to the river with two private beach areas to relax. The river flow does change after heavy rains so it may not be suitable to swim in the early spring but fishing is great! The river flows at its lowest level in July and August which helps our learning swimmers enjoy the water. Walkout to the swimming hole from the river path to cool down on a hot summer day.
We work with our local Oregon Department of Forestry to insure that we comply with all campfire regulations along the river. When needed they may or may not issue permits to allow burning. Please respect the neighbors to the north by staying on the same side of the sign reading "END OF HIP CAMP."
On our 25 acre farm known as JSM Ranch, you'll see black Angus beef cattle grazing on grass pastures along with free-range goats, sheep, ducks, and chickens. Our beef cattle are 100% grass-fed with no hormones, antibiotics, or grain finish added. We practice rotational grazing on our farm. Sometimes the cattle will not be in the fields next to the campsites. But you are welcome to walk our fields to find them. You're only minutes away from the town of Molalla to grab a bite, groceries, or other camp items. You won't be disappointed for a great breakfast at Tammy D's (Mulino, OR), sandwiches at Humble Pig, or pizza at Bear Creek Pizza & Pub. Please review the rules to ensure everyone's safety and enjoyment as we have electric fences and moving water. Check out our Group site River Rock for bigger families. We change our rates with the seasons.

Clean, beautiful, riverside
Amazing spot by the river! Rain or shine it is perfect with plenty of cover from the rain or open spots down by the river to put your chair and relax in the sun.
My 2 year old kiddo loved visiting the cows and chickens and splashing around in the river. The site and potty were very clean. I was at site #1 which was really close to site #2 - would have been good if we had a big group to get both sites. We brought our pop up trailer and there’s a steep hill down to get to the campsites - was a little nervous since I just had a v4 SUV but with a running start we were able to get back up the hill to leave.
Great city escape
Can’t wait to come back to visit. Nice hike on the area at the forest center, cows and a cute pig to share your scenery with and a great piece of river to relax on. Clean facilities and great spots. James makes the listing without a doubt, would love to have this guy as my cool uncle.
Thanks again for our first hipcamp!
Five stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
We had a lot of fun staying here with two little kids (ages 4 and 7). There were some chickens wandering through our camp from time to time which was funny. The kids were very entertained by the cows and pig. The river was shallow but again, a good set up for children. Lots of river rocks and stuck to play and build with. We sat in the stream to cool down during the afternoon. Bathrooms (port-a-potties) were SPOTLESS. There are cute lanterns lining the driveway/paths and bathroom area. Our site (#3) had space for two tents, parking for two cars, and plenty of room for four adults and two kids to hang out. It’s definitely a river/field/farm camping vibe; lots of trees for shade.
Scenic and serene
Our stay at River's Edge was just what we needed. The directions were clear and got us to the site easily. Host James was at there when we pulled up and was helpful and friendly. The site was clean and it was easy to find spots to set up our tent & camper van.
With the river on one side and grazing farm animals on the other, it was the perfect place to slow down and relax. Our teenaged boys spent much of the time in the river and enjoyed having access to the paddleboat. For next time, we'll bring more floats for hanging out on the water.
Due to a fire ban, we weren't able to have campfires but found the Timber Pellet Fireplace to be a nice alternative. It took a bit of learning on our part but was so easy to light and maintain. It was great for taking the chill off in the morning and adding ambience at night.
We had a great stay and look forward to coming back. Thanks, James!
Close to river, great for families
I stayed in camp spot 3. The host thoughtfully laid out straw where the tent would go (the ground was a sandy/dirt) and set up a picnic table. The porta potties were clean and only a short walk from the campsite. I chose this hipcamp due to the location to the river and the open sky to watch the Perseids. In August the river was very low, slow, and gradual drop off; perfect for little kids. I felt safe, it is a gated entry and the host's dad cruised through the camp ground a couple times (there are 6 camping spots) to assure everyone had what they needed and answered any questions. I also suspect he was checking the vibe and assuring there were no fires (fire ban in effect) etc... If you want to use this hipcamp as a party/drug place, I'd recommend you find someplace else.
This is perfect location for small group camping and family camping.
Great weekend getaway
Beautiful place on the Molalla River. Campsites are closer together than i thougjt they would be, but that wasnt a problem for us. Would be a great spot for group camping!
The cows may be grazing right near where your camp site (fenced in of course). They were quite talkative our first morning! Met James and I belive his father. Wonderful, kind people. Such a great weekend escape.
