Your own private park
River Rock was like having our own private corner of a state park. The tent sites are level and wooded, and just up the bank from the river. Facilities were clean, in nice condition, and as-advertised. Jim showed us around and was nearby if we needed him. We all agreed this would be a great place to stay again for a longer camp, in any season.
Excellent lowkey group camping
10/10 when you know what you’re getting: this is pasture-adjacent shady riverfront group camping within 40 minutes of SE Portland where your floaties, paddle boards, and river shoes will be key to your stay. Our dogs were SO HAPPY splashing in the shallows while we caught tadpoles and crawdads.
Fire pits are big and well-tended, the portapotty facilities are well cared for and you’ll find rain barrels of water available to you! As a bonus, there are trees suitable to hammock sleeping both on the main campsite area and also overlooking the river AND the picnic tables can be moved wherever you want!
What this site is not: remote, quiet, private, forested.
Perfect group camping on the water!
Our stay at river rock was pretty fantastic. The site was well taken care of, clean and right on the water. The kids spent all of their time riding bikes, in the water or hanging with the cows and Kevin Bacon (the pig 😂) the host was incredibly responsive and kind.
My biggest reservation when booking was that it seemed expensive for camping. BUT when we originally booked we were trying to find camping for 20 people which is was a huge headache. When I factored in the ease of planning, the savings vs. renting a house, the gas savings (30min from Portland), it became a no-brainer.
We will absolutely go back.
Fantastic family weekend getaway!
What a great camping weekend! Big comfy sites, with thoughtfully placed picnic tables with their own lanterns hung on trees nearby. Very clean port-a-potty’s. Awesome river access which was so much fun to splash and float in. We loved saying hi to the farm animals and of course the friendly proprietor! Would absolutely come back!
Sweet riverfront group site
James' site on the Molalla River is awesome. Clean porta, fresh water, assistance when we needed it. The group site was brand new and there's a bit of a walk to the river. But the host is actively improving the site. Great location.
We had a group of 17 campers, this spot was really good for a large group, and the host had laid out fresh hay for the tent spots which was a nice touch. Plenty of space for tents to be separated, and the beach and the river is fantastic and has a fire pit down there too. There is also a small paddleboat that the owner lets you use. The host was helpful, brought us firewood (that we forgot to pre-buy) and answered a lot of our q's leading up to the weekend.
The traffic from the road can definitely be heard, so if you're looking for total seclusion this isn't the spot. But it is convenient to have a gas station/safeway a few miles away.
Finally, these are divisive times so just a heads up that you will be met with a trump flag at the front of the house. We all got along so it was not an issue for us.
We had the group site and it was fantastic. It was very helpful to read the previous reviews which meant we were prepared for dust, water shoes and what not. Kids and parents had a great time. The swimming hole is awesome. Paddle bot was super fun! James was a great host (kind and helpful at all times). We’ll definitely be back!
