Sparrow Lake Camp is situated on the southernmost tip of the majestic Canadian Shield.  The site is known to have been a campground for bands of the Huron people prior to the European intrusion.  It is considered probable that Samuel de Champlain, the first European to explore Huronia, spent a night on this site in the 17th Century. In 1892, what would become the west side of the current property was sold by pioneer Captain Thomas Stanton to Toronto's renowned Massey family to act as their summer resort.  The resort sported the main lodge, dining room, and cottages and was only accessible by train and steamer. From the onset, the Masseys used the site as a summer retreat for the Young Men's Bible League of the Central Methodist Church.  Today, the property is a thriving summer camp that also offers overnight tent stays with stunning lake views.

"Cranberry" Lakeside Tent Site
We loved our stay here! The timing was perfect for us to admire the autumn colours around us. Having the camp fire, cooking area, and platform right by the water was very enjoyable. The kids enjoyed seeing all the frogs and even got a visit from a gentle garter snake while we were relaxing. We fished from our canoe and caught a nice sized large mouth bass. It is a bit too weedy around the campsite to shore fish. Overall, a great way to take it a step above car camping without a tedious walk in. Our young children were able to do the walk in without issue. There is one part that is a bit steeper. The canoe definitely helped with bringing things over, though. The thunderbox location felt private and was surrounded by trees. The early morning/late night train horns are quite loud, as well as the geese/ducks and gun shots, so earplugs for sleeping would be useful for those who are sensitive.

Duck Bay Paddle-in Site
Absolutely phenominal site. This was a very helpful and great group of people. The site was in a great place and they were extremely accomadating. I unfortunately lost my phone and keys in the lake and they were more than willing to do whatever they could to help me. I'll definatly be back and can't wait to visit again. Thanks again!

Peace of mind
Absolutely beautiful camping spot. My partner and I stayed a week and wish we could have stayed longer. The hike in is pretty steep in one spot but overall not toto bad, depending on age and shape :p, canoeing items in would be the easier route and a free canoe to use at any time along with the firewood is a major bonus! In terms of privacy this was the most private spot we have hipcamped! and the amount of area you get to yourself is amazing. We brought our kayaks and fished, lots of bass and some pike, its nice when the lake is calm. The milky way came out a little bit and some shooting stars 😎. Super friendly hosts and very responsive! Going into town isn’t toto far if you need anything. Lots to explore in the surrounding area. Lake is weedy but we just cleared a spot on our site to dip in. Note the lack of respect some people have, soaked toilet paper rolls tossed around, and a towel thrown on the box privy, cigarette butts everywhere right in front of the firepit, baby wipes and random garbage in areas. We cleaned up some stuff but it takes two seconds to throw something out or make a garbage bag and hang it somewhere, there was also a blue bin on the site that you can toss things in and take it with you when you leave c’mon people!!. Highly recommend and can’t wait to come back! Thanks again!!
