Cedar Forest With River Swimming
Shady cedars reach over the river, with a cozy hammock to swing in. There is a little picnic table in the open air next to a fire pit. This site is a 5 minute walk from the parking, but well worth carrying your gear! You will be camped next to the sounds of running water where you can swim and fish. A delightfully private and lush campground with kind and welcoming hosts. Hope to return. Me and my dog had a wonderful time.
Host is nice. The site was just right, quiet, sunny by the river and nice shade in the bush. Stars were beautiful at night. Thank you!
Nice spot !
This property has great potential. Unfortunately our site didn't look anything like the pictures. Only similarities was the hammock, a couple chairs and a firepit. It was so overgrown with weeds that we couldn't see the river, nor have any safe access to get in the water. I dont think the weeds had been cut at all this year. They were 4ft tall. So we couldn't swim or fish. There looked to be floating dock, but it wasn't tied to anything so it was stuck under some weeds. The ladder to the water was damaged beyond use. Also I would suggest to pack light and bring a good wagon to walk your stuff to the site. Its about a 5 minute walk along the grass or through the bush on some rough trail with stairs. The bridge is not smooth enough to roll a wagon so you must lift it over the bridge. Overall this site had potential if the area was taken care of.

Amazing camping grounds. Didn’t get a chance to go swimming but there was a lake to use. Leda is probably the coolest host you can find on this app haha. She was extremely nice and helpful. Even offered us some drinks because we forgot to bring our hard liquor with us on the first night. There was also fresh eggs to use in the morning and fire wood to use for campfires at night. Overall 10/10 would recommend.
There was a bit of an unfortunate booking mixup when we booked. And, I think Leda was worried we’d cancel and book somewhere else. She offered us another spot on the property and we accepted, because, sometimes the best adventures are the ones that didn’t go as planned.
While staying at PayDirt Camp, we had an opportunity to explore the beautiful property. The river, the trails, and the other sites.
PayDirt Camp is perfect.
Both the Pine Forest and the Cedar Forest are beautiful sites. The beautiful tree canopy, and soft pine needle ground cover make it a comfortable place to set up camp.
The location - about 15 minutes from Midland and 5 minutes from Victoria Harbour makes it the ideal spot for campers who always seem to forget something. (Or, the campers who still need their Tim’s every morning.)
Its close proximity to town shouldn’t dissuade you. From your site, or anywhere in the property for that matter, you’d have no idea at all that you weren’t in the middle of Algonquin.
There are trails throughout the property, as well as the old rail line that cuts through it. You’re also not far from the Ganaraska trail. If you aren’t that ambitious, then just lay in the hammock and listen to nothing but the birds and the river splashing over the rocks.
Leda and Wolf were superb hosts. Attentive and accessible, but never intrusive. Thanks so much for sharing your slice of heaven with us! We’ll be back!
