Flat, safe, walkable, and right on the Ohio River, California, Ohio, the quaint little village that it seems, is really a neighborhood of Cincinnati. California has a lot to offer and literally something for everyone, from gambling and the track at Belterra, to golf at the California Golf Course, music at Riverbend (seasonal), hiking and nature programs at California Woods, karaoke at Lebo's, Sunlite Pool (seasonal), festivals and more at Coney Island, 4 very different restaurants- 3 right in town within walking distance, one, a brewery. Within a very short driving distance are some marinas down the way, also with restaurants. A bike trail runs right through California along Kellogg Avenue connecting California to the many trails in Cincinnati's Crown bike trail network. We are close to Lunken airport, which also has a golf course, public tennis courts, and a 5 mile walking or biking loop, accessible by the Kellogg Avenue bike trail. One can see some interesting planes coming and going over California on approach and take off. The Little Miami River flows by California, and if you wanted to, you could paddle from the boat launch area at Armleder Park accessed from Wooster Road, and paddle down the Little Miami to the Ohio River, around the corner and upstream on the Ohio about a mile to your very own (borrowed) boat ramp (fairly steep, rocky)(experts and conditions permitting only!). There are even some motorcyclists in town if you want to find someone to ride with! Armleder Park and California Woods both offer nature and hiking trails. There is a small museum, more of a history room, where, by appointment, the lively curator will tell you stories while showing you maps, momentos and photographs of California past. Donations accepted! If watching baseball leagues play games is what your cup of tea, there is a large sports complex with ball fields in California. A town park with lots of trees and grassy open space and small playground area is a few blocks away. Bring your game of horse shoes, corn hole, a frisbee to throw, your skateboard, golf cart, or some bikes just to cruise around and take in the scenery. Take a walk around town, then sit by the river and watch the boats go by. Relax, set up your grill and enjoy the sights and sounds of the Ohio River. Maybe do some fishing. (Catch and release. Probably should have a permit.) Perfect for river rats. You could even set up your tent by the river.
You might hear some whinnies, there's a small farm next door with miniature and other horses. (Appointment required and payment ahead of time to visit the farm.) Downtown Cincinnati is 15 or 20 minutes away with no traffic. There's tons of stuff to do in Cincinnati! The RV parking site is three minutes from the 275 exit.
