Pitch your tent or string a hammock in one of our several serene camping areas around the meadow and forest. The meadow has thousands of wildflowers, hundreds of fruit trees, and several gardens. There is also a beautiful wooden stage that is nice for lounging, music-making, yoga or tai chi practice. The meadow is surrounded by forest and has a nice walking trail to enjoy. Fern Hollow is beautiful as it is peaceful. It's a perfect place to slow down, soak up the starlit nights, pull out a book or instrument and enjoy your company by the fireside. Our farm serves as a hub for community events and sustainability education - we are always working on projects, if we’re around and you’d like to learn more about the farm and what we’re up to, we’d love to bend your ear. You can also visit us at our website Fern Hollow dot org and Fern Hollow Farm Facebook & Instagram.

BOOKING WITH US: We have three campsites spread across our 10 acres. We have sites that can accommodate larger groups and small pull-in or pop up campers. When you send a booking request please tell us 1) How many campers are in your group (including pets)  2) What your camping set up is (tent, hammock, camper, car-camping, etc) 3) Any other info you feel we should know. Based on this info, we will verify that there is a site available that can accommodate your request and we will either approve or decline the request accordingly. The $40 base price covers two guests and site reservation, with a $10 fee per additional person (this includes children). We will respond to your booking request within 24 hours - please allow 48 hours for all other correspondence related to your trip.

Please familiarize with our cancellation policy BEFORE sending a request. Once a request has been approved, you have three days prior to your trip date to make modifications (changing # of nights, # of people) or a cancellation in order to receive a refund. We do understand weather forecasts and travel plans change but this is the policy that feels fair to our farm team and business through our experiences of hosting. We often get more requests than we can accommodate and have to decline requests. Last minute cancellations negatively affect our team and moving forward we will not be accepting exceptions to our policy.

Check in time is 3pm. We try our best to be available for your arrival but with different groups arriving at different times and juggling our work responsibilities on and off site there are times that we may be delayed in greeting you. We provide self-check in instructions to your camping site and general information about accessing farm amenities prior to you arrival so that you have the needed information to begin getting settled and enjoying your visit. One of our farm team members will greet and further orient you to the site as soon as they are able. If you expect to arrive after 9pm please let us know at time of booking or as soon as you expect that you might be arriving late. Understand that we may not be able to provide an in-person orientation during those late hours (you will still receive self-check in instructions and needed information for accessing amenities) and we can move that in-person orientation to the following morning if needed. Check-out time is by 1pm.

CAMPSITE AMMENITIES: Each site has a fire pit (not all pits have cooking grates so please come prepared to cook over open fire). Each site either has a picnic table or a patio bistro set for seating and dining. We provide a 5 gallon water jug and one small bundle of firewood for each site. If you need additional firewood, there is some available for sale on site for $10/bundle.

FARM AMMENITIES: Recycling bins are available but please try to minimize waste and pack out mostly what you have packed in. Much appreciated! We have a Porta Kleen toilet that is serviced weekly (usually on Tuesday mornings) for campers. We have a beautiful solar shower house available for our guests - we ask that you use the provided biodegradable soap/shampoo and do not utilize any outside soaps/shampoo/other bathing products to help protect our natural ecosystem. We have two different walking trails that guests are able to explore around the property and forest.

Please note that this is a working farm and also Erik and Olivia's home. There are chickens and guinea fowls who free roam and a rooster who crows in the morning ;) We also have two Great Pyrenees dogs who free roam until about 9:30pm and help protect our livestock. They can have a big bark but are super sweet and have loved becoming friends with Hipcampers. Your pets are more than welcome on the farm but we ask that they be leashed through the visit due to our free ranging birds and as a courtesy to other guests. We also ask that you clean up after your pets around the campsite and public areas around the meadow. You may occasionally hear farm equipment in the neighboring farms though a typical day at Fern Hollow is quiet and peaceful. We look forward to sharing our home and community with you :)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Surrounding area: The farm is 5 minutes outside of Somerset, a quaint and historic small village in the rolling foothills of the Appalachian region. There are good dining and drink options (Epicere de les fleurs, Strong & Co, Clay Haus Tavern, Sophie’s Tearoom) within the town square and drive-thrus and a small grocery store for any last minute conveniences you might need.

Nearby activities: If you feel like venturing off the farm for a day-trip, we love to go exploring the Hocking Hills area, about a 45 minute drive with many trails and parks within. It’s truly magnificent and if you haven’t been you will surely enjoy. Dawes Arboretum, 20 minutes away, is also a lovely place to visit and spend time exploring outside, or to enjoy a picnic. (Note: They now charge $10 admission.) They host several family events and workshops throughout the year so be sure to check their calendar to see if there is something that might interest you. Or spend the day at the lake at Burr Oak State Park, approx a 35 minute drive. There are boating and kayaking opportunities, a beach for swimming and sunning, volleyball games, several picnic spots. We love to swim here! Also, a future UNESCO World Heritage Site the Newark Earthworks is the largest set of geometric earthen enclosures in the world created by people of the Hopewell Culture between 100AD-500BC. About 25 minutes away and a very interesting place to visit to learn more about indigenous culture and history. You can walk around the site and visit the Great Circle Earthworks Museum. We also enjoy a glass of wine every now and then at Vinbierge and Sand Hollow, two local wineries. Please let us know if there is something specific you are looking to do during your stay and we’ll try to point you in the right direction. Of course, relaxing at the farm is more than enough to fill your trip!

Permaculture Paradise was exactly what our family was looking for - it was gorgeous, quiet, and private, and yet had amenities that made it comfortable for us and our young children. The working farm was a real hit, and our kids got to feed the chickens. Eric was an amazing host, and showed us around and even gave us some fresh shitake mushrooms that we found. I couldn't recommend this place higher! One thing to note - there were quite a lot of flies around at meal times - so be prepared with some way to keep them away.

A wonderful place to camp! I highly recommend taking them up on the in-depth tour: you can learn a lot about the plants, animals, buildings, and permaculture in general! Loved the outdoor shower and our shady camp site. Thanks Olivia, Erik, and Olive!
