The yurt is nestled in between a mixture of Hemlock and Poplar trees on the side of a small, steep mountain. Between the beautiful rock outcroppings, life in our temperate rainforest shows with the lush ferns and foliage, resonating forest sounds of birds and insects, background music of the Cane River, and the overall tranquil ecologically rich environment. The yurt is something sweet, without a lot of amenities it is still a true camping experience! The outhouse is less than fifty feet from the yurt, a rain barrel set up for doing dishes, and a designated fire pit with camping chairs.
Each season brings different joys; wake up to the birds singing, spend crisp mornings with tea and a book, and enjoy relaxing evenings catching lightning bugs or warming by the fire. We have some small gardens by the yurt, you’re more than welcome to help yourself. And the wild berries! Some blackberries, but mostly wineberries, are usually ripe for a few weeks around mid July and goodness they are a favorite! Lots of wildlife to explore, wildflowers to enjoy, wading and skipping rocks in the river, even a few fishing spots nearby so bring your license and gear.
Approximately ten miles past the property, towards Tennessee, you enter Pisgah National Forest and run into the Appalachian Trail. We can direct you to great hikes in both directions, and a little waterfall just off the road perfect for hot summer days or a polar plunge during the winter months! Mount Mitchell, the highest point East of the Mississippi is on the other side of Yancey County, worth the drive and visit on the Blue Ridge Parkway. While you’re out, visit the quaint town of Burnsville, NC, about a 30 minute drive from the yurt, where you’ll find restaurants, a brewery, art studios, a community theatre, and eclectic shops. Asheville is a longer commute at about an hour's drive, and has everything you’ve heard of and more. A must-stop for art lovers is Penland School of Craft, an international center for craft education tucked in the Blue Ridge Mountains, 45 minutes away.
Although our family lives in close proximity to the yurt, we respect your privacy and are available on an “as needed” basis. There are four of us, a few furry friends, and you might see our chickens depending on where the tractor is set up. Farm fresh eggs are available and delicious!

Cassie’s yurt was so so awesome. You should stay here! They have thought of so many extra touches and have clear instructions for those who aren’t familiar with yurt living. 10/10 would recommend!
The yurt was amazing! Comfortable for sleeping and hanging out. It was a beautiful spot, with all the amenities and an incredible view of the night sky to enjoy. A little luxury with nature included.
My family of four had a wonderful stay at the yurt! The space was exactly as it was described and pictured. Plenty of space and everything you need. Unfortunately we could only stay for 1 night, but we managed to cook a full dinner, breakfast, and even s’mores over the fire pit. We will definitely be coming back to stay here again!
The sunny side up yurt was comfortable and serene! Lots of privacy and we had everything we needed. Would definitely stay here again.
I would describe our stay at Sunny Side Up Yurt as a peaceful glamping experience. After parking, my husband and I descended a short staircase to the gorgeous, deck-perched yurt, and the relaxing evening that awaited us.
Cassie and Ben’s yurt was beautifully decorated, well-maintained, and had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. This Hipcamp is a perfect choice for those seeking to unplug and restore in a comfortable, wooded setting: The bed was comfortable. The kitchen offered the necessary amenities to cook a delicious dinner. And, the vast deck was treetop heaven.
What really stood out about this property was the meticulous attention to detail. It’s evident that the hosts put a lot of thought and love into the design of this Hipcamp. From the garden areas, to the fire-pit, to the interior space of the yurt itself, Cassie and Ben have done a fantastic job of turning this property into a tiny paradise. Even the outhouse is a place of interest!
If you’re looking for a great place to spend a peaceful evening with your dearest loved ones, and enjoy being lulled to sleep by the tranquil murmur of a nearby river, Sunny Side Up Yurt would certainly be a fantastic choice.
Thank you for sharing your Hipcamp with us, Cassie and Ben. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time at Sunny Side Up Yurt.

We really enjoyed the Yurt. It was beautiful and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to get away for a night.
The yurt was beautiful, clean and secluded in a beautiful valley
My partner and I enjoyed the yurt so much! It was beautifully decorated and has all the necessities you need with additional resources in case you ran out of anything or forgot anything!
I would note that the driveway is super steep and if you don't have AWD or have trouble walking/being on your feet this may be a challenge for ya. There's also no shower or private area to bathe if you're staying longer, so I made sure to bring a collapsable bucket with biodegradable soap and we had lil sponge baths in the evening.
Otherwise, this place was absolutely lovely and Cassie and her husband, Ben were very kind and communicative. We also made sure to purchase some eggs from their chicken coop and enjoyed them for breakfast!
