Pitch your tent on one of four sites in the solitude of a cove hardwood forest right next to the Pisgah National Forest, just below renowned Max Patch bald.

Choose a private site or group up together around the council fire ring. Go to sleep in the quiet of the forest, wake to a chorus of birdsong. Step out of your tent onto a trail of discovery to high mountain meadows and deep solemn forests. Being here is being away from the noise and chatter.

Conveniences are only a few hundred yards away at our small rustic lodge, with showers & bathroom access, drinking water, and a seasonal selection of goods & produce from our organic farm. We also provide custom maps of the area to help you orient and navigate the many trails nearby.

The Appalachian trail is a 20 minute walk from your tent, and the top of Max Patch bald can be reached within an hour. There are also waterfalls, ponds, and mountain streams nearby to check out. While you're here, we invite you to visit Green Heart Farm, our high-mountain organic farm and fruit orchards.

wonderful camping spot nestled at the base of max patch about two miles or so from the AT. very secluded. was us and one other party camping. a short one hour hike to the top of max patch. Very friendly dog named Sonny. just make sure you secure your belongings because Sonny likes to snag things lol

I get the impression that the place used to be an old lodge for AT thru hikers. the sites arw primitive but there's a port a potty and a well to get water from so it's not shit in the woods type primitive. about 30m drive from hot springs on a windy mtn road.

Beautiful location and Dave was extremely helpful and accommodating. My kids and I had a blast and we enjoyed talking to some of the people hiking the Appalachian trail. You can get to the lodge with your vehicle, but unless you have 4 wheel drive you won’t be able to get your car to your site.

Camping at Greenheart was amazing. We felt like we were the only ones in the woods, except for the comfort of the porta-potty, lodge, and Matthew’s Trading Post a short walk down the mountain. The campsites are laid out perfectly and the trail from the land leads you to Max Patch is a beautiful hike.

David and Matthew are both friendly and have great tips for exploring the area.

Sonny was a hoot, our dog was so excited to have a play mate and our entire family enjoyed his shenanigans.

We can’t wait to come back!

Awesome host with magical lodge and amenities on site. You can’t get a better experience when trying to see Max Patch. I also recommend fishing in the nearby Max Patch Pond.

Thanks again David for all your hospitality!

So many great things to say about this campsite. It’s a bit of a drive up there, so it’s in a nice, quiet area. It’s super close to Max Patch, which is great! The campsites are nice and spread out, so it almost gives the feel of dispersed camping, although I think we were the only people camping at the time haha. Was surprised to find firewood and kindling at our campsite, so didn’t have to scour around too much to get a fire going. All in all, it’s exactly what we needed. A quiet slice of paradise in the woods. Unfortunately didn’t get to check out the lodge and farm, but looking to stay here again someday, so there’s always next time!

Also, gotta be careful with the local dog, Sunny. He might steal your breakfast sausage if you’re not paying attention 😅 but he’s super sweet!

We came at the right time! The fall colors were beautiful and you are definitely right in the middle of them at this camp! We were assigned campsite #5 at the top, so note that there is a bit of an incline after the glamping spot so if you are like me and are out of shape and not used to the elevation, it may require taking a few breaks on the way up!

If you will have a lot to set up then I recommend you contact Phillip & Ruthy ahead of time to arrange for it to be carried up for you. We did not do this and got a workout but it was good preparation for the next couple days of hiking.

Upon arrival, you are provided a map to Max Patch Bald and I highly recommend hiking it. It was gorgeous and it is not too challenging a hike (keep in mind elevation and a few steeper inclines here and there). There are many AT trails around, as well, so if you want to go off their map a little, it's easy to do without getting too far away. We wandered around and found 2 waterfalls and it was great!

The porta potty was VERY clean but they also have bathrooms with showers available during the day and there is a water source, as well. Everything you need!!

I had driven in from TN so my GPS had taken me down 6 miles of dirt road off the interstate. It rained the last night were were there so I was a little worried about returning that way, but Phillip & Ruthy provided me with directions back to I-40 that kept me on paved roads. Very helpful!

All in all, I would recommend this place for anyone already familiar with hiking and camping. And definitely go during the fall to see all the beautiful colors, if you can!
