We are located in scenic Putnam County only an hour north of New York City although you feel like you are a world away immersed in the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley woodlands. If coming via train, take the Metro North Harlem Line to either the Brewster or Southeast stations. If you decide to leave the farm during your trip you are a short distance from Fahnestock State Park, the Appalachian Trail, and antique shopping in Cold Spring. And you can easily access the Empire State Trail which is only a little over a mile away.
At our farm you will have plenty of space & privacy. You won’t have to share your experience with many other groups of campers. We only have three sites on over 150 acres which ensures a peaceful camping experience. Site 1 is a wooded camp site with a fire pit and picnic table situated on natural ledge rock with seating and also a cleared area for your tents etc. There are ample trees if you use a hammock tent. Site 1 is about a 5 minute trail walk from where you can park at the barn or you can drive up the trail and park at the site. Driving to the site is possible via Jeep trail. . Site 2 is a level grass field next to the riding arena surrounded by woods, it has a solo stove fire pit with log benches and an ArteFlame cooking fire pit and picnic table. The field is approximately an acre and you have it all to yourself. You can drive your vehicle right on to the field and keep it there for the entire trip. Both sites are within 100 yards of the horse barn where you have access to the bathroom ( toilet, sink, and air conditioned) and potable water. For experienced adventurous campers we have "Site 3" which lets you choose your campsite location deep in the woods where you can set up camp and practice your survival and backcountry skills. This has been a favorite of friends who take those skills very seriously and like to practice finding what they need to survive in nature. If you would like to hunt your own food all hunting laws and seasons must be observed. This and fire conditions should be discussed before you arrive.
There are extensive trails that are excellent for hiking and mountain biking. You can also hike to the top of Mount Simewog which was named for the Indian tribe that once lived on the mountain. The top of the mountain has an elevation of 660 feet and makes an excellent spot for site 3 campers. There is a pond on the property surrounded by wild flowers for swimming, tubing, or if the kids want to catch frogs, it also has a sitting area in the shade under a giant red oak. The cauldron by the pond is a great place to cook meals or gather in the evening. The cauldron may be used by any of the camping groups. We have plenty of firewood that has been cut, split, and seasoned by our family and we provide this to you at no additional cost. Please do not bring outside firewood when you visit. The farm is located between the Middle Branch and the Diverting reservoirs so if you have the permits/licenses you can do all the fishing you desire. We also have a row boat located on the Diverting reservoir that is available for camper use.
This is a working farm with horses (mostly hunter/jumper), chickens, gardens, and abundant nature to include fabulous bird watching (bald eagles regularly fly around the farm). There are many things to enjoy on the farm; you can watch the riders jump their horses in the arena, pick your own farm fresh eggs from our chicken coop (but mind the mean rooster), and in season enjoy some corn or tomato from our garden. We also have plenty of farm raised pork and beef (ground only) for purchase on site from animals we raise. In July the wild blackberries are in season and ready to pick for making jam or just to eat off the plant.
Our farm also has some fun toys such as a real military Humvee and a M923A1 military truck that we have available if you want to use them as a bed or raised platform for your tent or park at your campsite as a unique accessory. Kids love the trucks!
Finally, there are some utilities available; there are water hydrants for potable water located throughout the farm, outlets for charging batteries/devices, there is wifi at the barn (however it is not super fast), and 3 gallon water bricks are available for your use.
People of all ages, races, religions, orientation, and gender are welcome at our farm and we do not tolerate any forms of hate. The individual making the reservation must be 21 or older. Gay / LBGT friendly.

Fall camping with kids
This was my first father / son camp trip, and the Horse Farm was ideal for our occasion. We were welcomed by Christopher on his tractor, which was an immediate boost for the kids. He gave a tour of the camp area, and made sure we had everything we needed to feel comfortable including lots of firewood. Having our tent with the open field was perfect for kids to run and play. Visibility of the stars late night was incredible. If you have a telescope, bring it. Highly recommend.
This was an amazing place. Perfect for our weekend with 3 young kids. The hosts are very friendly and take great care of their beautiful property. Would love to be back again.
Great for kids and families
This place is great. 100% recommend!
Different sites with different sceneries, horses, and a CLEAN BATHROOM. We stayed at site #1 and were very happy with it. The Jeep trail is easy enough to go up with your car as long as you have a bit of clearance. If not, it’s only a 1 minute walk through some trees to a small parking lot next to a horse barn (also where the bathroom is located). The site was very private and there were all of the accommodations. Picnic table, firewood, water, benches, grill for the fire pit, trash can; what else do you even need? Train rolls by in the distance every hour or so but it’s honestly super quiet; you barely notice it.
Chris and Nikki were wonderful, super attentive and helpful - even brought us eggs and bacon in the morning when we realized we had forgot to ask.
Bathroom was clean and was such a wonderful camping / “glamping” experience. Definitely will be returning!
I first visited Chris and Nikki's horse farm campsite with my two sons. They loved it, and we had a great time. It was the perfect way to introduce my kids to camping. We drove right up, set camp, they ran around, got lost, tired themselves out, and crawled from a perfect fire to the tent, all in their own space, without running into other campers. The next time, we wanted to share the magic we'd had with my wife, who was taken by the experience as much as we were. For her, this was the perfect weekend away from a stressful work week. The hosts are attentive and accommodating if needed, but remote, allowing you to explore their property and enjoy the company of nature and horses.
When we returned home, within an hour, my son had built his own horse farm out of toy animals, blocks, and Legos.
We have twice been thrilled with our experience, and we could not be happier.
Delightful easy stay
We could not have been happier with our stay at Chris’ beautiful property! The land is loved, well-cared for, and so welcoming for you to explore and enjoy. Everything here is perfectly appointed, well-thought out and accommodating. No need to schlep or buy firewood; Chris has plenty to share waiting there for you! No need to buy big plastic bottles of water; Chris will provide potable water from his well in refillable bricks. Do you want to eat the freshest eggs in your life? Chris will bring you some fresh from under the hens in the morning. We forgot to pack dish soap; Chris brought us some from his kitchen. All the facilities here are new and well-cared for. The bathroom available to you in the barn is clean, new, and not the “barn toilet” you think it might be. For all the beautiful horses you see training, you do not smell a single one – even in the barn. We camped in site #2, a lovely field with plenty of space to set up and run around while also feeling private and surrounded on three sides by trees. You have multiple firepit and cooking options available to you, including a caldron! I highly recommend jumping in the little pond – so refreshing on a hot day and so lovely to float peacefully surrounded by wildflowers.
We had a great time at Horse Camp Farm! Christopher the owner greeted us at the entrance and took us to our camping site and explain everything we needed to know for our stay and was very friendly and helpful in anything we needed. My kids loved exploring the farm, we picked blackberries and saw other beautiful fruit trees. They loved looking at the horses and other animals we found. Everybody at the farm was very nice. We enjoyed a lot our camping days very relaxing and mindless about the outside world.
We will be back !!!
