This property was part of Runnymede which was established on June 8, 1828. It is part of the Parish of Goba. Henry Burnell, a British settler, was granted a parcel of land totalling 1,928 acres by the Governor of New South Wales in 1837. He named this land Runnymede. He employed servants which he brought from England with him. He also had convict labour to help clear and work the ground. It is believed that the spring water in this are is so pure that it does not need to be purified or filtered. The convicts were put to work bricking a natural spring somewhere on the land. The well they built has never been known to dry out, even during the worst droughts. The convicts also built the homestead out of the same bricks made out of red clay dug out of the side of the hill near the spring. The homestead was completed in 1838. Henry never married, two of his servants did in 1841. Named Catherine Condon and William Austin, they had nine children together. They leased the property from Henry Burnell who returned to England. Sometime in 1938, according to a map of the Parish of Goba, the land where this campsite is situated was owned by a man named Henry Bland.  Eventually, my Grandfather and Grandmother Mervyn and Robin Innes purchased this block of land, along with much of the Runnyford property. Some of the land was gifted to my Father Ben Innes. My Father gifted a block of land to me which I  use for camping. Runnymede was once known for its cheese which was first made by an English convict in 1847 and then as the years went by, it was made by Timmy Ryan for over 40 years and then Pat Ryan until the factory closed down. The present factory that's on the property was built in 1887. Runnymede also had a Post Office and a Telephone exchange. That's when the name was changed to Runnyford about 1909. It was closed as an exchange in 1972.

Runnyford River Camping SITE #1
The campsite is awesome. It is on the river with its own jetty, cleared camping area, fire pit and plenty of shade. Saw some wildlife (kangaroo) and even caught a couple of fish

Runnyford River Camping SITE #1
Best campsite ever
This has to be the best campsite we have ever stayed at. The site is very private and tranquil - we didn't see anyone else for the two days we were there. We had all our meals on the jetty overlooking the river. The river was at its calmest in the morning and evening and was perfect for paddleboarding. The camp site was surprisingly dry given the volume of rain prior to us arriving. The road in from Mogo is in good condition and the road down to the campsite was easily mangeable without a 4WD or AWD car.
