Antler Ridge Primitive Camping
Private camping near crowded parks
This spot is off the beaten path! It's several miles down a gravel road and then a couple hundred feet through the woods. It's probably 30 minutes or less from Echo Bluffs State Park.
The host was great. He waited at the property entrance to lead the way - helpful because I do not want to trespass on the wrong property! He had mowed the campsite that day.
The road through the woods was a little rough -I don't know if a sedan could have made it- and tight -some small branches brushed our vehicle.
The campsite is a small clearing surrounded by a very dense stand of young trees about 12' high. Amazingly, no bugs bothered us. There's rocks for a campfire pit, and the host offered wood, but we decided against a fire since it was so dang hot. Saw a ton of stars.
This secluded experience was *way* better than being a crowded campground IMO. I've had enough experience with noisy neighbors to prefer places like this.
