Wooden tent in a secluded hardwood forest setting, 450-foot elevation drop from ridge top to valley campsite. Easy walk in / drive in ( 4 wheel drive )  trail access, plus five miles of woodland hiking trails on property, maps provided. The Wooden Tent campsite is accessible by four wheel drive vehicle - minimum clearance 6 inches,  - if the soils are not saturated. If guests do not arrive in a four wheel drive vehicle, we are able to help transport your gear to the site with a UTV while you enjoy the walk in, or a tractor and trailer if conditions are poor.  Let us know your needs when you book with us and we will do our best to help you with getting to the site. The  Wooden Tent sleeps 2 adults comfortably with plenty of room at campsite for additional tents as well, ( please inquire ). This campsite though close to highway access is very quiet and secluded.  The only artificial lights visible from the campsite are the occasional airplane and your own flashlights or lanterns ( strongly recommended because it is very dark in our woods at night). When the sky is clear, the  stars are fabulous.

Our Wooden Tent campsite is ideal for those looking for a quiet woodland setting, with a few comforts - a nice fireplace (with firewood), picnic table, outhouse, and solid shelter. We also provide a 3" - queen size mattress pad, on the floor of the Wooden Tent, and fresh drinking water in Thermos jugs.

There are plenty of woodland birds, deer, turkeys, raccoons and squirrels sharing the woods with you. At night it is common for owls to visit the campsite area to say hello, and coyotes talking in the distance. The winding trails through 100 acres of woodland offer a variety of woodland habitats, from Old growth Maple to mixed hardwood, to dense brush, to the edges of open pastureland. Bring your fat bike or mountain bike for an enjoyable ride.

For winter users there is a mix of easy, moderate, and challenging winter cross country skiing  or snowshoeing / hiking on the property. however the Wooden Tent is not heated so bring winter sleeping gear.

This property is part of a working pasture-based dairy farm and guided tours of the dairy and cattle are available when scheduling allows.

Children 12 and younger are free at our campsites. No need to be counted as guests , but please let us know when requesting to book.

We do not allow non-booked visitors to our campsites due to the secluded, remote location, and accessibility.

We had the best time staying in the wooden tent! The hiking trails were beautiful and very well marked. We had a ton of fun making a fire and cooking our dinner and s’mores over it. Mike was so helpful and kind, and even helped bring us and our gear to the camp site. We will definitely be back!

What a wonderful camping experience! Mike and Joan were excellent hosts. Leading up to the trip, their communication was warm and helpful. Upon arrival, we were greeted with kindness.

Mike led us through the property, down the bluff on a narrow, one-lane, rustic road, to the campsite. When we got there, we were immediately blown away by the beauty of the area and the thoughtfulness of the campsite. The Wooden Tent is even more magical than the photos show, and Mike and Joan have not overlooked any detail. From bins for gray water disposal, ash disposal, trash, paper, and recycling to dry fire wood storage, the site has everything you need. There are two chairs and a table in front of the fireplace, which has grates for cooking. The compost outhouse is clean and dry and doubles as a changing room (there’s a full length mirror). The wooden tent has plenty of little shelves to stash small items and locks from the inside and outside, and the mattress was super comfy! Even for someone with a bad back like me. There’s a washing station with a double-sided wash bin, poking sticks for the fire, plenty of dry kindling, and some other miscellaneous items. And let’s not overlook the wooden playground - the old tree trunks arranged for climbing are right at this campsite, making it absolutely PERFECT for kids. Our kids are seven and four, and they had the best time at this campsite. Even mom and dad has fun balancing across the trees.

The hiking trails are gorgeous and well-maintained. The property is huge - we didn’t even come close to exploring it all. Make sure to hang onto the property map they give you. It’s necessary!

Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay more than one night! We will definitely be back and can’t wait to stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the wooden tent. We hiked around the well marked trails, enjoyed cooking over the fire on the raised stove, slept comfortably in the tend. Our dog enjoyed the freedom to scamper around the site too. It was nice not to worry about rain and not needing to pitch our own tent. Mike and Joan have created a camping experience with great attention to detail. It was a great stay.

Mike and Joan have an absolutely wonderful property! Not only were they incredibly nice and accommodating, but they also had everything you could need ready for us. They brought us fresh water, had plenty of fire wood/gloves/wood fire grill, clean bathrooms and more. We had the most amazing time hiking around the property with our dogs, we cant wait to stay again!

A truly one of-a-kind peaceful getaway! Mike and Joan are exceptional hosts that extend the most gracious welcome to their beautiful property. They also provide thoughtful details such as fresh cool drinking water, fire wood, table and chairs, and heat-resistant gloves for tending the fire. The wooden tent and outhouse were very clean, and
clearly constructed and maintained with care. We had the most tranquil evenings sitting by a warm fire, looking up at the stars and listening to the serene sounds of owls and other wildlife. Exploring the many beautiful trails on the property provided fun and peaceful adventures. We can't wait to visit again!

The Wooden Tent is a fun stay! You are at least a quarter mile away from the other sites, so it is very private. The outhouse was very well maintained and clean, and there is one specifically for each site - so it is your own. There are trails all over the property that are nice to walk. They provide fire wood and kindling, as well as drinking water and toilet paper, lanterns and matches. Safe to say, we were well taken care of.

This was our second time staying at the wooden tent and it was just as magical as the first time. Mike and Joan have really put a lot of thought and care into every detail of the campsite and their property, and I feel so lucky to have found such a gem only a couple hours from the Twin Cities. Our dog Olive just loses her mind with happiness when she’s there. Looking forward to staying again!

I was traveling solo with my dog and looking for a quiet spot in nature that was just a step above full out camping. This was it! Mike was so very kind! He printed off a list of favorite hiking spots (because I mentioned I was interested in hiking), brought fresh spring water to the campsite, and a whole fresh bin of kindling wood. The site was very spacious and had more amenities than I was expecting ( drinking water station and separate washing water station), plenty of free firewood, solid and large outhouse. The site is quite shady because it's down in the wooded valley, so it got dark earlier and light later and there was lots of morning dew when I was there. Just anticipate a slightly different microclimate than what's on top of the hills. I would absolutely recommend having a 4wd vehicle and/or one you can take over rough terrain.
