Come stay under the stars in this magical bell tent in the Saint croix River valley. Queen bed with comfy organic bedding. Wood stove for heat and an outdoor fire area for cooking, as well as an outhouse. Hike or snowshoe the half mile down to the Saint croix River. The tent is within view of the farmhouse but feels very private and is hidden by trees and overlooks the prairie and river valley. Relax and unwind, soak in the warmth of the wood stove and the healing power of nature.  This listing can be booked along with my other listing "The Writers Cabin" for bigger groups.

The Space:  Year round Bell tent made in Belgium. Wood stove, queen size bed with organic bedding. Outhouse.  Campfire area equipped with a grate and griddle for camping.

5 gallon water jug, Tea kettle, tea and hot cocoa provided.

Guest Access:

Guests can access the river by hiking 1/2 mile.  Tent is private and we will give you plenty of privacy. Please note we do have chickens and two dogs that live in the property. We ask that Dog owners keep their dogs away from the chicken coop and run area.

Other Details to note:

Although the tent is beautiful and equipped with bedding and many comforts of home, please note that this  is a camping experience.  Keep your forecast in mind when planning your trip.  The tent is made for all four seasons, but your only heat source during cooler nights and in the winter is a wood stove.  We will often light the fire for guests, but it is up to you to keep it going through cold nights to stay warm.  Dress warmly and in layers.  The same goes for summer months and bugs.  Please come prepared for rain, snow, sun, mosquitos etc.  In the summer months the tent has a built in screen that opens the whole bottom of the tent for air flow.

Frequently asked questions.

“Can I check in early?”. The tent is often booked back to back so I can’t always accommodate early check ins.  Feel free to ask me and I will do my best.

“Is there river access?”Yes, there is a hand drawn map to the river inside the tent.  It’s a half mile hike down with a steep incline on the way back up.  Totally worth it.  There is a campground at the river called “eagles nest” that has picnic tables, fire rings, bathrooms and a water source. The campground is maintained only in season.

“Is there firewood?”Yes, we do provide firewood to keep the wood stove going and enough wood for campfires and cooking over the fire.  More is available upon request, however, it’s not an all you can burn endless supply... please burn only what you need.

“What’s the bathroom situation?” There is a private composting toilet.  We ask that you add pine shavings too it, and composting bags can be tied off and put in the container by the outhouse as needed.

“Can I bring my dog?” We do allow dogs and don’t charge a fee for them.  Our dogs will greet them and are well behaved.  We do ask that you clean up after your dog and keep an eye on them at all times and keep them away from the chickens. No pets on the furniture.

“What do I cook over the fire?” Campfire cooking is fun and versatile.  There are many recipes for campfire cooking.  The griddle and grill make it easy to cook anything from morning eggs or pancakes to a steak and potatoes over the fire.  And don’t forget the s’mores! We ask that all cooking be done outside.  You can warm soup or boil water for tea or coffee on the indoor wood stove, but nothing that would cause smoke or fumes to gather in the tent.  You can always bring a camp stove too if you want more options for cooking. There is a picnic table with two benches for eating or sitting by the fire.

“Do you to provide dishes and cooking supplies and utensils?” Bring your own cooking supplies, cooler, and utensils etc,  just as you wood if you went camping.  I do have two mugs and spoons for tea or hot cocoa and a small camping tea kettle for heating water.

“Do you rent canoes and kayaks?” We don’t rent them, but there are some great options for local rentals in Taylor’s falls and Saint croix falls.  Check out my guidebook for recommendations for everything local!

“Can I drive to the tent”. Guest parking is available under the big maple tree by the farmhouse. There is a cart there to help bring your belongings out to the tent. Vehicles are not allowed at the tent.

My husband and I had a wonderful anniversary weekend. The location was easy to find, just down the road from Fanconia Sculpture Park. The walk from the car to camp was easy and a cart was provided to easily transport our things. The firepit was great with a grill and griddle top, tongs and firewood were provided inside a metal cabinet next to the picnic table. The outhouse has a composting toilet, they provided two rolls of toilet paper. The only issue there was that my husband is 6'5 and barely fit inside. The tent and the interior were beautiful. At 5'9 I was able to walk around the tent easily, lots of space inside. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. The bedding was clean, comfy and plush. We went at the end of November so we really put the wood burning stove inside the tent to use, it was windy and 25⁰ at night but inside the tent it was warm and cozy. Firewood and matches were provided for the stove as well as a kettle. Next to the bed they set up a cute night table with flameless candles. Another table provided drinking water, a basin, a LED lantern, tin mugs, hot chocolate, hand soap, and a basket of assorted things like a deck of cards and the guest book. The floor of the tent was covered in several rugs making it very comy. When we had questions or needed more wood Allison replied quickly and helped us with all our needs. The only thing I'd suggest you definitely bring are earplugs, there is a very talkative rooster on the property ( I always bring ear plugs so I was not bothered) . I have no complaints, I think this camp site is worth every penny and the experience was awesome. I've already recommended it to several friends and even a few new people I met on this trip who seemed interested.

The Wilder Bell Tent was such a cute a cozy place to stay. The wood stove kept us warm all night and our hosts were super nice and helpful anytime we needed more firewood or water, they even left us a jar of treats for our dog! The walk down to the river was a bit steep but beautiful with the fall colors! Lovely place to stay near the St. Croix River!

This camp was incredible and Alison was such a great host. The site was beautiful and the tent with wood burning stove was like nothing we’ve ever camped in. Everything was clean, convenient and easy and we had plenty of privacy. The view was beautiful and cooking over the fire with the griddle that was provided was so much fun. I highly recommend this campsite to anyone looking for something unique, comfortable and memorable. Thanks Alison!

I loved my stay at Wilder Farm Bell Tent! Alison was an amazing host, making sure I had everything I needed. Despite the 90 degree weather, the adorably decorated tent stayed nice and cool! During the hottest part of the afternoon, I enjoyed spending time down by the river at the beach. During my stay I visited Dancing Dragonfly Winery, Took a Taylor's Falls river boat tour, and finished a great book. It was the perfect get away to enjoy nature, yet still close to all the happenings.

Staying at Wilder Bell Tent was a fun little getaway. The bell tent was full of thoughtful touches that we truly appreciated, as well a real queen sized mattress – very comfortable! As the bell tent is situated within view of the house, which is itself nearby a fairly busy country road, this is an ideal stay for the couple who is looking for more of a pseudo-glamping getaway, rather than a secluded camping trip. We enjoyed the short walk down to the river, the beautiful sunrises, and all those stars at night!
