absolutely beautiful camping spot during peak fall. make sure if using an air mattress to have plenty of padding as the spot for the tent is very rocky.

It was a very nice campsite with everything you need. A little close to the road but it wasnt too loud to enjoy the peace and serenity of the Northwoods. I would definitely stay here again. The chairs made an extra comfort to the campsite.

Nice, clean site in wooded area with picnic table, fire pit and Adirondack chairs. Close to nearby outdoor areas of interest and not too far from Wakefield where there’s a small supermarket. It’s a bit inconvenient not to have a water source, but we knew ahead of time so we were prepared. I’d definitely use this site again.

This was a great site. Good space and tucked away nicely. If you're looking to be out there on your own and not bothered by others, this is a great pick.

Great spot to use as a base camp to explore the western U.P.! Perfect set-up for comfortable tent camping in the north woods.

Camp 420 was the perfect site for the weekend getaway we were looking for. It was a nice little spot secluded in the woods, with signage and amenities that had a forest preserve like feel. There is a designated spot to pitch your tent, a picnic table, and four chairs surrounding a nice fire pit. The outhouse/port-o-let was kept clean as well - much appreciated. We rented a pontoon boat for the day from a local resort, went into town for dinner and met former Packer Gilbert Brown. Back at camp we roasted marshmallows while we sat by the fire and listened to the birds settle down for the evening. In the summer do bring insect repellent and a separate mesh tent to cover the picnic table to keep the deer flies and mosquitoes at bay while you are eating. We always bring one and it makes camping more enjoyable. I recommend and would definitely come back to this campsite. Thanks Shawn.

Beautiful place - mosquitoes galore

Shawn’s land is beautiful! We were really looking forward to letting our dogs run themselves out. Unfortunately, our timing was not right. There was some stagnant water by our campsite that wasn’t included in the pictures of course (possibly due to heavy rains before). Stagnant water = mosquitoes and more mosquitoes.

Anyway, we got there and were attacked by too many mosquitoes to count. The amount of mosquitoes compared to having gnats all over your face, clothes, etc... except that these mosquitoes were thirsty for blood haha. We literally had to turn around and leave after a few minutes.

Fortunately, we didn’t have to make the 4 1/2 hr drive back home on the same day. We were able to find a camping area on our way home and spent the night there.

I did call Shawn to let him know we were leaving. This was our first experience with Hipcamp so I don’t think we were able to cancel the rest of the stay at such short notice. Shawn was apologetic, and it was a learning lesson for us.

Fantastic place for the winter as well! Only issue is that the road off of the campsite seldom gets plowed (according to locals) and the campsite wasn’t plowed either. If coming in the winter, make sure your vehicle can handle snow. Other than that the facility itself was absolutely gorgeous and a full night sky too.
