Dark sky beauty
I am not in a great position to review Jaimie's land, unfortunately. Due to me getting us stuck in the snow for 6 hrs, we did not arrive until way after dark. Speaking of the dark, we were lucky to have a clear night and so we were able to see some beautiful starry skies, if only briefly, as the temperature was below zero. The wood stove is very small and would be hard to keep going throughout the night to stay warm, so if you plan on visiting in the winter, make sure you are prepared. We brought our Mister heater just in case and I am so grateful that we did. The bed and bedding were both comfy. The basement kitchen and sitting area are welcoming, flush toilet bonus. Unfortunately, just before our trip, my husband experienced a herniated disk and pinched nerve which made the bending necessary to enter the tipi/yurt extremely painful. We left the next morning. What we were able to see in the morning, made us think it would be a good place to come back to for ourselves or with our granddaughter. Jamie was very helpful with the info she has put together about the region. She was kind and understanding from the time we notified her that we were stuck, to the time we needed to cut our trip short.
Neurotic discriminatory behavior
We were giving her more than enough grace for falling vastly short of her promises and her listings descriptions . And she kicked us one night in she came over to us after having let my service animal outside. And upon seeing me. (And perhaps my hat is what sent her over the edge which may be racial hostility and aggression, my beanie says “we are on indigenous land” and she has many appropriative native style items in basement of the lodge) interacting with us within seconds she was hollering up a storm about how we needed to leave right now no service animals it was the last straw. She loaded up the firewood we chopped and shuffled it to other guests. Complained having 2 other jobs. went on about how she should have canceled the stay bc we took time to message her back via Hipcamp after already making confirming booking viewing downloading and printing the manual. It appeared as though someone tore her out at work and she was looking to lash out over anything. She was incredibly unprofessional and has this listing cross posted with Airbnb. We think it may have gotten booked for that same evening on the other site where it costs more and she kicked us out to make space. This is a common Airbnb scam. She had many small costs to nickel and dime visitors upon arrival. And in her messages and directions and manual there is conflicting information over where to park and my friend pulling in parked on the wrong side of the red chairs she lost it, wouldn’t listen to the apology.
Heated and cozy tipi
The place was remote and relaxing! Not for from a beautiful roadside park along Lake Superior and only 15 mins from downtown Marquette. 6 mins from a local grocery store. I really enjoyed going all around hiking. PLENTY of great trails to choose from up there! Looking for a relaxing trip soon, its a great, safe and most importantly in 2020, really clean option in nature. Thanks Jamie for your hospitality! Plan to come back again someday.
