Griff’s River Lot is a great camping option that is a 35 min kayak down the river to Torch Lake. The host is gracious enough to supply kayaks, life jackets and paddles. Such a great amenity! Our campsite even had a grill with a full tank of propane. The campsite also allowed for a nice game of bags (also provided by the host). Wood was available for $5 a bag which is great. The porta potty on the site is super clean! The only downside is that the campsite is located just off a road but the traffic is not terrible. Short drive to public access points to Torch lake from the campsite. I would highly recommend and will definitely book again if I return to the area!

Situated in a wonderful location. The site is small but just what we needed. There was a grill on both sites and plenty of room for our tent and cars. The neighbors kept a VERY BRIGHT flood light on for the entire night. Make a plan for that.

Kayaks were great too! We loved paddling on torch river.

This is the second summer we’ve come back to this spot. The dock to the river is so perfect and it’s much more intimate than a campground. Def recommend. Also you can’t beat the proximity to the sandbar.

I am not sure I would recommend this site. We had some good experiences, but some disappointments as well. Pros-Brittany was very good at communicating, the outhouse was clean, the other family camping there was great, the river was clean and refreshing. Cons- The amenities were not the best. Dirty tables, only 1 chair for 2 camping sites, garbage overflowing, broken glass in many parts of the ground and not much grass for putting our tent. It was very close to a busy road and there were a lot of very loud trucks driving fast throughout the day and night. We've stayed at a lot of hipcamps over the years and to us, this one felt almost abandoned.

Awesome location, so close to Torch Lake. We had a boat and there was plenty of room to park the boat/trailer with a car. The boat launch was less than 5 minutes away. Also close to drive into town and grab groceries, dinner, etc. Also close to Traverse City. 10/10 location.
The river dock and kayaks/canoes were a nice perk. Also convenient firewood at the site as well.
Only downside that others have mentioned was that it was right on the road, not a big deal and there wasn't much traffic but the traffic that came through seemed to come through fast and loud lol. Also are last night there the neighbor next door was sawing for over 2 hours, very loud but nothing the host can help but was hard to sit back and relax and read my book.
Would definitely stay again though just for the location alone.

Clean port-a-potty, fire rings and plenty of wood. It’s not private, but it sure is better than being in a camp site where there are 50 other tents and campers within arm’s reach. The dock at the River was so much fun - the hammock in the river was lovely. We kayaked the river out into the lake and back- and saw all kinds of wildlife. So grateful you’re willing to share this cool experience with Hip-campers!

We had a great time at Griff’s River Lot! Close proximity to everything we wanted to do in Northern Michigan and it was awesome being so close to the river.

We had a really wonderful time staying at this campsite! While the campsite is along the side of the road, the road is not that busy and you are able to set your tents far enough away. Despite that, the rest that this location has to offer is magical. The river is so peaceful and spectacular and you can sit and enjoy it while feeling very secluded. On top of that, the fact that there are kayaks, oars and life vest all included in the cost is incredible. You can take the kayaks down the river past gorgeous scenery and wildlife and then make your way into Torch lake which is stunning and the whole southern end is basically one big sand bar with azure waters. Brittany was responsive and helpful. It was contactless check in and firewood onsite for your use ($5/bundle). Wonderful spot!
