--  PRIVATE BATHROOM HOT SHOWER/TOILET/WIFI

Finalist: Best HipCamp Massachusetts 2022

Salamander Hollow is a private, evolving honeybee and human being sanctuary on 18 acres of land abutting Massachusetts State Forest.

Rented out solely to one private group at a time, you will enjoy the entire property with its three dwelling options - the Slovenian Beehive Cabin, the Sleeping Library and 22 foot ceremonial Sioux Tip with firepit -  just the two of you, or up to twelve of you. More if anyone wishes to tent. Great option for families and retreats.

Seasonally available from April through October is the truly novel Slovenian Beehive Cabin experience - wildly popular in the eco-tourism culture of Slovenia - where you and three of your guests co-habitat safely with honeybees. Enjoy the meditative hum of their secured hives redolent with its subtle fragrance of beeswax and honey. This sunlit one cabin comfortably sleeps four, two on a queen futon and two in an upper loft. For those balancing work and play, the bright space boasts a strong WiFi signal and small desk with picture window where you can gaze at the mesmerizing honeybees while on a Zoom call enhanced by beautiful natural lighting.

Also on site inclusive of the rental, the year round one room Sleeping Library with wood stove, cozy sleeping loft for one or two spooners and two benches below on either side of room - for two sleeping bags on inflatable camping pads provided.

Lastly, the sacred 22 foot ceremonial Sioux tipi with two cots, two Adirondack chairs and fire-pit. Removing the chairs during the night, makes ample space for two sleeping bags on the wood platform. This remote Warwick, Massachusetts property abuts many miles of New England Trails, including to Mount Grace and a 45 minute drive to Mount Monadnock. One can pack a lunch and take a round trip day hike, snowshoe or cross country ski right off the property to and around Richmond Reservoir. Its also a short drive to swimming & trout fishing at Sheomet Pond - also, known as Clubhouse Pond.

A ten minute drive takes you to the parking area to hike up Tully Mountain. There is a grill, wood fired pizza oven, two fire pits and a hygienic Incinolet electric toilet on the property for night convenience, with small camp sinks for washing & teeth brushing.

Take a short hike off the property to organic Chase Hill Farm for milk, eggs, seasonal veggies, grass fed meat and other goodies. Say hello to their cows, chickens, pigs, goats, pups and kids. Nestled across the road from Salamander Hollow is Timber Haven Farm, where you can schedule your pickup of bacon and eggs, while loading up on delicious Owl Energy Bars for your adventurous excursions. For those interested in the glamping side of camping, you will enjoy a remote rustic experience with a few creature comforts to keep you well read, clean and fed. Please bring your own bedding - pillows, sleeping bags, comforter, teddy bears. There is a wall mounted blue tooth car radio/CD player in Sleeping Library, so bring your pre-digital favorites. Classical CDs to listen to. Lots of eclectic books to peruse.Walkie talkies, a set of 4, are available upon request. Chess & poker sets, too.Electric 2-burner stovetop and griddle upon request.A courtesy amount of firewood is provided in The Sleeping Library.

Bring fire-starters/newspaper for tinder. We suggest if you are staying more than a night or two in winter, you bring supplemental wood or we can direct you to a nearby standNext season, our own cut and split wood will be seasoned and available on site.We ask that you carry out trash and recyclables. There is another location underway allowing you access to hot shower and toilet we hope by the mid to end of June.An established Western facing four point sacred Medicine Wheel site being established on Askari Ridge - our name for the slope starting with the two fire pits - 'Askari' being Swahili for night guard. Here is where we envision a great touch-point area for those leading groups to be for a base-camp by day or night, where eventually a multi-use tenting platform/performance stage will be constructed for outdoor entertainment, creating an authentic 'stadium style' seating on the hill.

You will see on your way up to Salamander Hollow main clearing - the Kula Bata Cabin on the left of the dirt road-  now available to rent with its small guest room for two, infrared sauna, hot shower, kitchenette, dishwasher and laundry.

Mary’s property is serene, sacred, and sublime. She is an unparalleled host, communicative and welcoming yet hands off. Now that I’ve discovered this little patch of zen, I don’t ever want to stay elsewhere. The best glamp/camping experience I’ve ever had. Recommend 100%. Thank you Mary & Ingo!!

Words cannot express the wonderful time my family had at both of Mary’s properties. There is something deeply magical and healing about this place. It was absolutely perfect for my large family’s retreat to celebrate my uncle who we lost earlier this year. Mary was an resourceful and exceptional host who went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure we had everything we needed. It brought me so much joy to see my family there together and they are already asking to plan a trip there next year!

Our escape to Salamander Hollow could not have been better! We did not tell our kids much about the site so when we were arrived they were blown away by the tipi, library, and bee house. Each corner of the camp was unique and welcoming. At first we were a bit nervous about the bees but by the end of the trip, they were one of our favorite parts. We avoided the bee's main flight path and we were completely fine. We also were surprised about how much we loved the pizza oven! It was a great place to gather and chat while the oven was warming up and our pizzas were delicious. Mary was extremely accommodating and, prior to our arrival, gave us great tips about how to use the pizza oven and local places to visit. We took a drive to Sheomet Lake and the kids loved swimming and fishing in the warm water. We also purchased some food at Chase Hill Farm. My only advice would be to bring your own drinking water. The water pump is great for cleaning dishes and cooling off but, as Mary pointed out, it does have a metallic taste. Thank you to Mary for an amazing escape from real life at Salamander Hollow!

We had such a great weekend at the Beehive cabin and Library. Mary was easy to communicate with and made sure we had everything we needed. She also gave us an extensive list of hiking trails in the area. The Beehive is definitely Glamping at a whole new level. Highly recommended.

If the heart of a mother was a physical place, this would be it. After meeting my hosts and experiencing my stay here all I can say is this place is a gift and you should come. There is a sacredness and love here that is physically felt. The Slovenian bee cabin is a restorative place that is literally buzzing with life The tipi and reading cabin will rekindle the wonder and joy of your childhood. All the many comforts of home are intertwined with the healing properties of nature. It is truly a magical place that was created in the hearts of its hosts and poured forth for all to enjoy. Sit in front of a fire in the reading cabin, outside overlooking the view, or in the tipi, gather by the fire brick oven to eat, walk the trails here, watch the koi fish swimming in the pond, read one of the many books provided, play a game, learn about the life cycle of bees, meditate, or just sit and listen to the birds singing. There is something for each one to enjoy here. One tip, add the honey bee hopestone or fresh honey. They're both amazing. ❤️
