More than expected. Very spacious. Loved playing with the cat and feeding all the goats!!!! Peaceful area. They provided more than enough supplies to have a comfortable and fun stay
Staying in the big red barn was absolutely fantastic! Frankly, we didn't know what to expect, but after a night on the AT sleeping outside the Ed Garvey shelter, the warm shower was all we really needed. To make it even better, towels, shampoo, conditioner, and some of the most refreshing soap was there for us to use! The firepit was perfectly set up, and there was even kindling to ensure we could get started fast. The brochures in the welcome book quickly lead us to an italian restaurant more than willing to deliver. In the morning we even got to visit a cute goat behind the barn. Would highly recommend!
We had a wonderful time in the Big Red Barn. Our children, 8 and 11, loved the novelty of sleeping in a barn and interacting with the goats and cows. It was beautifully decorated and comfortable. The accommodations were everything that we needed for a one night stay, though the lack of running water may have been an issue if we planned to stay longer.
It would have been helpful to have a more welcoming outdoor seating area by the barn, but the fire pit area was a great place to play a card game.
This place is a dream. Loved staying here, I extended my 1 night stay to 2 nights. The barn has massive doors you can swing wide open to extend your living space. Definitely one of the highlights! Such a cool experience sleeping in a barn surrounded by hay. (It felt very clean inside!) I made a campfire, roasted marshmallows, reflected on life, took evening strolls in the countryside and listened to music. Got my much needed rest. 5 stars,
Visit harper’s ferry, and stay
We were in the area to hike the WV portion of the Appalachian Trail in Harper’s Ferry, raft on the Shenandoah stay over and bike the C&O trail the next day. The Big Red Barn was perfectly located to do all of these things while offering a relaxing place to unwind after a long day. Easy to find with simple directions, off a main road. Our hosts thought of everything, no need to pack coffee, utensils, games, they really thought of everything. We enjoyed a spectacular sunset and sunrise from the lawn, woke to rosters and cows. But the barn had WiFi, a TV with Apple play and other conveniences of home. The night we stayed was a little warm, but once we hooked up the fan that was provided it’s was fine. It is a short walk down a hill to use the bathroom, but it’s was very clean and private. Although it was just my niece and myself staying at the barn, you could easy gave up to 6 people comfortable! It would be the perfect adventure for a family with small children, or even a girls trip! I would definitely return to this special spot if in the area again.
This very special and unique set-up is just as described. The hosts, both human and animal, are welcoming and gracious. Our family of four (including 2 tweens) enjoyed the blend of camping with the comforts of home. Combining cooking in the fire pit with internet access and fresh country air with a four poster bed meant all of us found joy at the Barn at Greener Pastures!
