Very cute and quiet. Great part of maine to stay. Located in a rural neighborhood making it both a fun place to camp, with a sense of security, and privacy. The Whale Shack is extremely easy to find and even easier to access. The neighborhood has quarrys to explore, trails to hike, and a beautiful swimhole with the jumps to match. I allow up to 4 people, although the cabin really fits 2 people but has room to pitch a tent for the rest of your party. I don't mind if all of you try your luck in the cabin tho. You are not far from Frenchman Bay and Mount Desert Island, home to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor which is only a 30-40minute drive.. The area is rich with tons of fun, we really hope you enjoy your stay.

Friendly and helpful
Ron was always quick to answer and helped me find the place when I was coming in late. The place was all I needed after a long day of hiking. (
No shower (but that was expected) and the porter potty was right beside the shack. Would stay here again.
Great convenient stay
Staying at the Whale Shack was exactly what I was looking for on my trip to Maine! It was a really pleasant 45-minute drive from Acadia National Park and it was located on a quiet street in a wooded neighborhood. I was barely at the Shack other than to sleep and if that is what you are looking for then it is perfect! I didn't need to bring any camping gear and having the bed to come home to after a day of hiking was quite pleasant. The only downside that I could think of is the neighbor had some barking dogs on one night and I couldn't help but feel that I was imposing on someone else's land during my stay. Other than those tremendously minimal details the trip was awesome and the whale shack fit my needs perfectly!
Great spot, especially for hiking Acadia. Bare bones, as described. It was easy to find, clean, and had everything we needed for the weekend (fire pit, picnic table, porta-potty, drinkable water, shelter)
Ron was incredibly accommodating as hurricane (tropical storm) Henri complicated our plans to go to Acadia. He helped me to cancel and re-book so we avoided the storm on our vacation. The facilities were clean and tidy and I would recommend this site to others for sure!
Great little budget-friendly spot in a quiet neighborhood. I was only there to rest for the evening, but seems like a good homebase for a couple of days if you are adventuring around the area. Loved the little picnic area set up!
The stay was exactly as described in the description and exactly what we needed! Ron was a great host and was very responsive and helpful. We used the hose as a shower with a tarp hanging from the trees which worked really well but the water was freezing!! Great for filling water bottles though:)
Perfect for two person acadia trip
The Whale Shack was perfect for what we needed - a place to camp after spending our days in Acadia (40min drive away).
Ron, the host, was very friendly & accommodating.
Was perfect for two of us (one on bed, one on sleeping bag on floor) and we had a good time there. Five stars from us!
