Early settlers of this area were mainly Scotch-Irish and there are several dominant family names that still populate these areas. Tobacco was grown in the area for many years, but now is rarely seen. This whole valley between two mountain ranges was chosen in the 1970's to be dammed and made into a reservoir for a hydroelectric power plant; however, the residents at the time formed a strong resistance, went to Washington, and eventually blocked the development, preserving its natural beauty. This land is within the Jefferson National Forest. It was owned for many years by Roy Light, owner of a nearby lumber mill, but when he passed away, his children cleared the timber and moved away. Since then, the diverse deciduous forest has regrown quickly. A rustic cabin made from salvaged hand-hewn logs was built on the site in 2014 and an alpaca farm was established; however, the owners had to move away due to employment changes. Currently, we are working on developing a perennial food forest, as well as dairy goats, and chickens.

Site 2 - Creeping Thyme Forest
David was very responsive before we arrived, and then once there, made a point to check in to see that we were comfortable, gave us the lay of the land, but also gave us a lot of space. It was a perfect combination. His land is beautiful. While he does cut swaths, he also keeps much of the property beautifully naturalized. Lovely pond; woods, Meadowlands. This was my first Hipcamp experience, and I can't imagine a better place to begin. Thank you, David!

Creeping Thyme was really lovely, easy to get to, and had a beautiful site with firewood ready to go! Thank you! Fun motorcycle destination if you have an on/off road motorpickle.

Peaceful and Pet Friendly
David’s land was beautiful. We got lucky and were the only ones there. We roamed the trails with our dogs and took short day trips to Pinnacle, devils bathtub and the channels. The dogs had the time of their lives roaming the acres and the site itself was super peaceful with the stream In the background. There were thousands of fireflies every night and the campfire area was a nice touch. We would absolutely stay here again!!

Such a beautiful property!
David is a very nice and helpful! His land is beautiful and helped us to find the best spot on the property. It was gorgeous and would definitely like to return. (Especially if port-a-potties were installed) 😉
