A unique slice of paradise just 15 minutes from the bustling town of Warragul and 1.5 hours from Melbourne CBD. Experience the power of Mother Nature as she quietly reclaims the land from this property’s industrial past. As a working sand quarry 45 years ago the natural beauty was denuded, but the scars have long since vanished beneath native vegetation that is gradually reinstating the natural temperate rainforest that belongs here. See where the early succession wattles have built the soil for the more later herbs and shrubs, and witness the influx of flora and fauna. Wildlife abounds, from baby wedgetail eagles and peregrine falcons to wallabies swimming in water troughs on hot days, elusive Gippsland Giant Earthworms, and regular wombat visitors. Wander around the property independently, or join the host—an experienced grassland ecologist—for a guided tour. This property provides a real getaway, with camping provided a good distance off the road. Travelling horses can be accommodated by arrangement in either stables, or yards. A 20x60m sand arena can be used by arrangement. Local Interests: Mount Worth State Park, with its incredible giant tree walk and fern gullies, is only 10 minutes away. You can also travel along the iconic Grand Ridge Road, with its cathedral-like forests, toward Tarra-Bulga National Park to explore walking trails through cool temperate rainforest. Cafés, galleries, breweries, and wineries are close at hand, and daffodil farms that ablaze in golden glory form part of the view. Lardner Park, with its many field days and functions, is a short 15-minute drive. The surf beach at Inverloch is one hour away, while the mountain resort of Mount Baw Baw is about 1.5 hours away.Kookaburra Nursery Campsite is suitable for tents up to 3m diameter and has an adjoining rustic shelter to protect campers from any weather conditions. The site is in the middle of a woodland of local Strzelecki gum trees with hollows used by local kookaburras when raising their young. Campers will need to be self sufficient for power, water and toilet facilities. Limited rainwater is available but must be carried 10m to the site. Please contain your own rubbish, but you are welcome to dispose of rubbish bags in the bins near the carpark. Cars can be unloaded of camp gear 10m from the campsite, and car parking is 85 m away. Two camp tables and a couple of arm chairs are provided in the shelter for campers to use. Pets are welcome at the campsite, but must be kept within the immediate vicinity. We recommend that pets be on a leash when leaving the campsite for a walk, as wallabies, deer and wombats frequent the camp areas. The car park is in the farm yard near the Host's house, but neither are visible from the campsite. No other houses or sheds are visible from the campsite.
