Hidden Valley House is nestled in Anakie, VIC, set within the scenic Brisbane National Ranges and only a 1-hour drive from Melbourne CBD. Taking into consideration our ethos around sustainability, the cabin is “off-grid” so solar powered with a composting toilet but with all the amenities you need. The cabin has spectacular views overlooking the valley with an abundance of wildlife and has a small creek and several caves which have formed over millions of years. As well as the cabin, we offer a camping area to larger groups that need overflow accommodation if the cabin is not big enough. This makes Hidden Valley House a fantastic option for large groups wanting to have all the comfort and amenities of the cabin, but experience the back-to-basic joy of camping in nature. Set on an 18-acre property at the start of the Brisbane National Ranges, it is home to koalas, kangaroos, echidnas, sugar gliders and an abundance of birds including eagles and kookaburras. Furthermore, the land is protected by Trust for Nature and Land for Wildlife offering long-term protection for many ecosystems, species and native wildlife. The property is surrounded by national parks and is only a short drive from charming, historical towns such as Meredith and Steiglitz and only 25mins to Geelong. A number of family-owned wineries are located nearby and within Victoria’s Moorabool Valley winery. AWD/4WD recommended

Come and escape to this fully self contained, 'off-grid', solar powered cabin. Just 1 hour from Melbourne CBD, you'll be able to completely switch off just a short drive from creature comforts. The cabin sleeps 5, and while it's an off-grid experience it still has all the amenities you need including a gas stove/oven, fridge/freezer, compost toilet and hot indoor & hot outdoor shower. We include a backup generator also. The cabin is surrounded by natural Victorian bushland which is Trust for Nature and Land for Wildlife protected. You can spot Koalas, Kangaroos, Wallabies, Echidnas, Phascogales, Lizards, Eagles, Sugar gliders and more.  It's just minutes from a range of wineries; cafes and close to the You Yang's for mountain biking and hiking adventures. Relax by the fire, play some board games, read a book, watch a movie or go for a hike. Sit on the balcony, enjoy the serenity and immerse yourself in nature. Fires are permitted in the fire pit provided but please be aware of any fire restrictions. Firewood is also provided.  Not suitable for toddlers/small children. No pets, sorry. Enjoy full use of Hidden Valley House, but also pitch a few tents and enjoy sleeping under the stars! This listing is perfect for larger groups who would like to use the cabin and it's facilities, but also experience the back-to-basics joy of camping in nature. You'll have full use of the cabin (accommodates 5) plus use of the whole property including BASS Camp. The base rate covers the cabin guests, and then additional guests/campers are charged at $55 pp/pn. We can readily accept up to 10 campers in BASS Camp. We may be able to accommodate much larger groups but in these instances, we would need to look at hiring additional toilet options, so this MUST be discussed with us prior to booking. Please just mention your needs/numbers to us and we'll see what we can do!  The property is very private, but there are neighbors Our fully self-contained off-grid cabin is solar-powered, so please be mindful of power usage. No hairdryers, or clothes dryers here! We also don't offer Wifi - we encourage all guests to disconnect! It includes two bedrooms, a gas stove/oven, fridge/freezer, compost toilet and hot indoor & outdoor shower. We also provide a backup generator.  The camping area is a very short walk from the cabin, and there is space for several tents. Pack a head torch to navigate between the camping and cabin at night!  Fires are permitted in the fire pit provided but please be aware of any fire restrictions. Firewood is also provided. A generator can be supplied - see extras to book.  Campers must take all rubbish with them and bring only cans to the site. The camping area does not have its own facilities, you'll need to use the cabin facilities.  Sorry, no pets. Campsite AWD/4WD vehicle access only The property is only 1hr from Melbourne CBD and is surrounded by natural Victorian bushland. The land is Trust for Nature and Land for Wildlife protected. We are only minutes from a range of wineries, cafes, general store and close to the You Yangs for mountain biking and hiking adventures. Or you can stay on-site and enjoy the fire, views and surrounding area.

18 Acres of private cabin & camping; You get the whole property! This is for a group of up to 13 people. Includes the cabin (2 bedrooms Sleeps 5) and use of 2 bell tents (sleeps 4 each) AWD/4WD recommended 2WD cars can park anywhere along the driveway. Campsite is approx 100m from the cabin. (short walk or 4WD access). The tents come fully furnished with up to 4 single beds. We provide everything for an enjoyable stay. Just unpack your bag and you are done! Linen and towels are provided in tents and the cabin. Max 13 people - approx $55 p/head p/night - Host to greet. Free shuttle service for Local winery (Del Rios). Must book ahead. Leave no trace all rubbish to be taken, (Beer) cans only. AWD/4WD recommended 2WD cars can park anywhere along the driveway. Campsite is approx 100m from the cabin. (short walk or 4WD access).

Such a perfect cabin and location! Could not complain about one thing. Only 20min from shops and not far from lorne/great ocean road if you feel like going on a nice drive. Fun little walking track around too. Will definitely come back

Loved staying at the Hidden Valley house. Everything you need for a weekend away! Great fire place inside and wonderful fire pit, plenty of wood, excellent kitchen and all the bits and bobs. Bbq and pizza oven as well! Would love to come back with a big crew as there’s a great spot for a get together. The land is beautiful, we saw tonnes of birds, an echidna, a wallaby from afar and the sugar gliders. No koala’s this time, but hopefully next time! James was a great communicator and made things very easy. Thank you for a relaxing weekend 🌱

What a wonderful piece of land! Our family loved to stay at James‘ place, who was very helpful and greeted us when we arrived. The kids loved the swing, hammock and climbing ladder nestled in the bush along the paths around the property. This was our first off-grid experience and certainly easily doable knowing that there is a generator as backup. How refreshing to see that there are still houses that exist considering the context and trying to fit into the bush, rather than standing out. Also worth noting that the house was very clean - which is unfortunately not common when you rent a holiday house these days. Thank you, James. We will be back!

We had an excellent bucks weekend at Hidden Valley. James went above and beyond making sure the place was set for us and we were prepared for our stay. If you're looking for somewhere that has a private and expansive feel while still having a few creature comforts and not being too far from civilisation then look no further. Only essential component is having a few people with 4WD/AWD, if you've got that in your group you wont be disappointed. Hope to come back again in the future!

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Hidden Valley House. The property is stunning and well maintained, and the house, while off-grid, has all the amenities you’d ever need for a weekend away. Watching the bird life and sugar gliders from the balcony with a cup of coffee was a great way to wake up. Thanks James for a great experience.

Great property and cabins. Perfect for own private bush getaway. Love exploring the property and just sitting around the campfire at night. The setup is perfect, off the grid, but with everything you need for groups. Perfect mix.

Such a lovely place to stay! Felt like we were staying in a treehouse. The cabin had everything we needed, was clean and felt very homely. There's lots to see around the area, but if you feel like staying in, there's plenty of indoor and outdoor games to keep you entertained! Thanks for an amazing stay, hope to visit again.

Absolutely amazing set up with so much space to fully immerse into the surroundings. Cabin is well stocked and all you could hope for. Fire pit down below to embrace the serenity in the evenings. Then you have Bass Camp and numerous other camp sites within the 18 acres…..it’s absolutely perfect. James is beyond the best host and accommodating to every need. I can’t recommend more highly and this is 5 star camping

Wonderfully rustic. The property is amazingly beautiful. A real oasis. The house has lots of quirks and has on old school feel but all the creature comforts you need. Really thoughtful details like heaps of throws, super warm doonas, comfortable pillows, well equipped in every respect. Tons of games and books. Views and fires inside and out made this house one of a kind.

Yes, the walk up to the cabin and back to the campsite will get the heart beating, it's steep and rocky but the scenery makes it worth the while. Do venture out from the cabin... the amount of bird life and butterflies make it worth it. We saw kangaroos in the distance too. James was an exceptional host, he'd thought of everything. Paper towel already in the bush kitchen, extra sunscreen at the camp site. There were plenty of chairs and a hammock ready for us. The bar and fire pit. The mirror ball! Plenty of trees to set up a slack line, plenty of room for Finska. Perfect for families and groups of friends.

We had a fun and relaxing stay. The house is located on a large bush property with a great view and fireplaces. The generator came into use as the stored solar power went low quickly on the first night since it rained and we stayed in and watched movies. The house is well fitted with all the essentials and cooking facilities including full kitchen and a BBQ beneath. The only downsides were the springy soft beds that hurt my back and shower mat smelt bad. I also recommend keeping doors closed as much as possible to avoid sleeping with any mosquitos. I would definitly recommend going with a small group to split the cost, although there are only 2 bedrooms, there's heaps of floor space for extra matresses. The light switches and power outlets take some getting used to since there is a split system for solar/generator. In summary this place offers a unique and cosy getaway experience you won't want to leave, plus only a short drive from Melbourne and Geelong.

What a guy! James is such a lovely, helpful and down to earth host, going out of his way to help us. The attention to detail at this house was great and it was presented better than we thought. The house had all the facilities and more than we thought, games, linen, nice beds and a great series the comfy couches. And then there is the view! What a spectacular spot, high up in the trees and connected with nature. James has some seriously good fire pits and there was plenty of wood for 13 men to light a decent fire! An in all, this property and James exceeded expectations for our "Post COVID boys weekend" and we are already planning on heading back. Thanks James for making it happen

James was a faultless, outstanding host. I simply wouldn't have been able to host my 21st birthday without his efforts. James shuttled numerous carloads of people and camping equipment from the local footy oval (500m away) to the site, given the rugged terrain of the site.

Absolutely loved this hidden retreat. A beautiful property which was fun to explore. James was a great communicator and gave very clear instructions, he even had a pile of kindling on the campfire ready for us when we arrived. I highly recommend the site; we will definitely be back.

What a stunning property!! Quiet and felt like my own private paradise. James was a fantastic host and very quick contact. Note when camping here that it is about 100 metres approx to the campsite (downhill) with no car access so keep this in mind when packing camp gear!!
