Over 120 years ago, loggers roamed the 11-acre property at Forrest, forging trails still visible today. The historic Loggers Cabin, built from towering trees of yesteryear, now boasts modern comforts. Upgraded with a flushing toilet, shower, and hot water, it retains its rustic charm, featuring an old fireplace, stocked wood, and a dedicated work desk. The well-appointed kitchen, outdoor BBQ, and woodfire pizza oven complement indoor amenities like a fridge, toaster, microwave, and stove kettle. Embrace the natural landscape, seeking shelter under ancient ferns or 80-meter-high Eucalypt trees. Enjoy outdoor spaces on rainy days, dotted around the property, or opt for cabin comforts with board games and movies. Nature's bounty surrounds without a snake sighting in over 40 years, this place promises a serene and safe escape. Discover the allure of the past in this updated, historic cabin at FORREST, set amidst nature's boundless beauty. Campspots are a plenty. You can come by and preplan an area of your choosing which we can clear of debris before your arrival. Please note it is a property with steep driveway so caravans longer than ten metres and greater than 1.5 tonnes will have difficulty getting all the way to the top. You have the option of camping down by the spring which is at the entrance. The toilets and showers are at the top of the hill up a 600 metre driveway. There is starlink available from the toilet block area. Depending on the day you book there may be the option of having a generator placed at your camp-site. However the priority for these are given to Riparide guests of the tiny house, campervan and cabin The glamping tent is only available in NovemberLYREBIRD LOOKOUT @ FORREST MOUNTAIN RETREAT IN OLINDA Discover Lyrebird Lookout @ Forrest, a hidden gem perched atop a wee mountain in lush Olinda, Victoria. This haven offers breathtaking forest mountain views, creating a seamless connection between the cabin and the sprawling naturescape below. Architecturally designed, the cabin boasts a unique feature – no lofts. With bright warm timber interiors, it aims to provide a grounded retreat from the harsh Australian sun. The absence of a bedroom loft allows for a spacious feel and a better tiny house experience. The well-appointed kitchen is a focal point, equipped with a fridge, freezer cooker, and a stocked pantry for your convenience. Step into the bathroom, where you'll notice the intentional omission of a toilet within the tiny house. Fear not, as shared flushing toilets are nearby at the blue water tank. This ensures comfort without sacrificing space. Your private shower provides a tranquil escape without the need to wander the property in just a towel. As evening falls, immerse yourself in the cozy ambiance of the indoor fireplace. Explore various light settings and, weather permitting, ignite a campfire down the timber steps or enjoy the glamping tent on wet days. The tent offers a unique retreat with board games, guitar and dress-ups for stormy situations. The property's water source, fed by an underground natural spring, echoes the Wurundjeri tradition of bathing for healing and cleansing. Don't forget to bring a jug to take home this natural elixir. Nestled in the Dandenong mountain, the land features towering Mountain Ash trees and ancient ferns. Cloudy days create a surreal landscape, white wisps of clouds look like brushstrokes against the vibrant green backdrop. Take a moment to explore the forest floor adorned with various fungi species, chestnuts and yabby holes adding a touch of magic to your surroundings. Wildlife enthusiasts will delight in rare encounters with yabbies, wombats, echidnas, Superb Lyrebirds, possums, fallow deer, a black wallaby, kookaburras, and a colorful array of parrots and parakeets. Wild Camping in the ancient forest
Christina
John was an really lovely host and was super accommodating! Helped us out of a bog and loaded his 4WD with our heavy gear to the campsite. The campsite was lovely and quiet, with flushing toilets a short walk away. We were disappointed that the hot showers weren't working (it looked like it needed a battery replacement). This was our primary incentive for choosing this site.

Lyrebird Lookout
Great location with a view
Lyrebird lookout was great, it was a bit wet for us, however would be perfect in warmer months. The tiny house had all the necessities for a comfortable stay, with great tracks to walk around the property. Would recommend for anyone wanting to stay amongst the forest and ferns with amazing views.
