Rustic Log Cabin on Private Lake
John was a great host, very welcoming. The cabin was exactly what we expected and more. So many outdoor activities to do. Got to see deer 30 yards away or so. Kayak. Fished. Build a fire first night. Looking forward to go back in the spring.

GREAT WEEKEND!
The spruce cabin and property was awesome! This place is really something else. My girlfriend and I booked the cabin last minute and I’m so glad we did. John is a great host and made us feel like the ranch was ours. John has a little slice of heaven on earth out there and we can’t wait to go back. All the wildlife and views were amazing and I’d say we accomplished our goal of a relaxing/adventures weekend. Thank you again John for everything! We will be back very soon to stay up in the hilltop palace!

“The Spruce” mini lake cabin
Was greeted by John and shown to the cabin. Cabin had all I needed.Complete with AC for the Texas heat,fridge,micro and outdoor cooking stove and sink.Another plus was the bathroom with shower. The land here is awesome! If you love nature and aren't afraid of a few bugs this is an awesome place. I saw deer, lizards,ducks,crane,kingfishers,and my first armadillo and scorpion. Being from Washington state we don't have those there. If I lived in Texas or closer and wanted a get away I would stay here. I give this place a 100 on a scale of 1-100.

The Rustic cabin setting is absolutely beautiful! The porch swing was my spot to relax and unwind. I loved the cattle roaming and interacting with one another. The stars were like a celestial dream! My teen daughter and her friends look forward to many more visits! -Karen

Quiet and peaceful!
My wife and I tried out this location to celebrate our 35th anniversary! Everything was great. The house was ideal, the porch swing was a perfect place for breakfast and to enjoy the cool summer rain we had. We hiked around the property a dozen times over the weekend. We wanted to stay a couple more days. A perfect place to unplug and focus on each other! We will be back! Thx Joy for making our time at JH perfect!

Cabin by the lake
We loved John's cabin and ranch. The cabin was comfortable, and the lakeside spot was ideal. John is a great host, he swung by the cabin with his pup Kimber and horse Sisco who were so welcoming we just checked out of city life in a heartbeat. We had a few walks around the ranch with our pup and were taken aback by the views, scenery, and wildlife. The lake feature was amazing - we kayaked, swam, and just chilled; The lake was so safe and cool that we brought our pup onboard the kayaks and she just took to the water like a waterdog. We can't wait to go back! Thank you John, Kimber and Sisco.

OFF THE GRID HEAVEN!!
What can I say but THANKS to John for giving us the best anniversary ever! He was an absolute angel in human form, and so patient, as well. Even after getting lost for over three hours he kept on helping us, and was still waiting in his jeep when we arrived. As for the property, and our little snug cabin, it was the closest thing to heaven we could experience. It was really spiritual.for both of us. The scenery is just too gorgeous, and you get the feeling of being back in the old pioneer days. Would I recommend it to my friends? It's already been done, and I have sent the word out to all my sites. If you are looking to get away from everything, no calls, no internet, just want to really be off the grid, then look no further than John Haggard Ranch at the Spruce Mini Cabin. You'll never want to leave. We will definitely be back, and
before the end of this year. Bless you, John. You are truly an angel in human form.

Pleasant escape
I had a very pleasant stay on John's property. He met me at the bottom of the road and guided me to the cabin. Gave me an orientation & then we had a nice conversation about his property and animals. He even gave me a tour of the larger cabin as it was empty.
The Spruce cabin where I stayed is simple & charming. The large windows make you feel as close to being outside as you can feel while in the protection of a structure. The bed is comfortable. The outdoor kitchen area is convenient and very usable. The hot shower is delightful, especially in contrast to the simplicity of the outhouse.
I agree that the cabin is only for those who are comfortable in an outdoors, rugged setting. Best to bring all your cooking supplies as if you were camping. Pots & pans were adequate, but there wasn't much in the way of other basic cooking supplies. Also, because the pond water level is low, there is quite a bit of mud along the shoreline making entry to boating challenging.
Overall, a great place and I will be returning!

Perfect, peaceful weekend get away!
John’s cabin at the lake is the perfect little weekend get away. The cabin was cozy, beds comfortable and we loved the outside area to sit and relax. The fishing was a lot of fun and we caught several crappie. John was great and the jeep ride around the place was also fun. Our dogs loved getting in the lake and going for hikes. They even loved sitting on the dock and got excited every time we caught a fish. We’ll definitely stay here again!!!

Perfect place to break away too!
We loved John’s placed! It’s absolutely beautiful and John is a whoot, kindest person. John made sure we had everything we needed, took us on a “ride” to see his property (so much fun)! Just a side note you probably won’t have phone reception out there and there’s no tv’ either- I promise you won’t miss them! We will most definitely be back!!

John was a great host, we always checked on us. He gave us a Jeep run which was fun. John told us a trail to godown and look for antlers and we found some. Our son caught his first fish. Beautiful place to get away. Thank you John, we will be back.

Beautiful rustic cabin with an awesome view! Plenty of room to set up our trailer tent and had a blast fishing and taking advantage of the kayaks and boat! Caught a ton of bass, more than we do many times on membership based stocked ponds! Highly recommend!

John’s place was wonderful. Extremely relaxing and everything there that we needed. The cabin is so cute, and the dogs loved running around on the property. He is so nice and helpful, and even let us have stay longer in checkout day to enjoy some time with family. We will definitely be back!

John's piece of paradise was perfect for our quick getaway out of the city. Gorgeous views of the stars! John met me at his house and then rode his horse as he guided us to the cabin. John is an outstanding host who truly enjoys hosting. He gave a thorough tour of the cabin and directions to the store should we need supplies. The cabin had a nice deck with lots of shade. Having hot water, stove top, and solar lights were so nice! Literally you just bring your ice chest! The jeep tour was fun and we were able to see the new calves and foal up close. We would definitely stay at John's cabin again!

We caught a lot of fish the first night & slept great on the comfy bed! Easy Camping!
We had an awesome time! John was very friendly and helpful. The cabin was great, it was just enough to still feel like your camping but with some added convenience. There's a room with a great view, running water, and nice fire pit. We brought alot of supplies, like our own water, propane, firewood, & grill just in case, but John had all of that provided also. The view is fantastic and some nice walking trails around the property. Our dog had a great time exploring around. Would love to visit again!

MUST STAY!!!
What a beautiful property! If you’re looking for peace and quiet this is perfect; if you’re looking for family and fun this is also the place for you. The cabin is perfect for multiple guests and has options for indoor or outdoor activities although you won’t want to be indoors at all. The lake is perfect, so many options to get on the pond and fish, swim, paddle, kayak, or lay in the sun. Loved interacting with the horses and doggos, so pet friendly. Wake up to cows and deer near the cabin was a majestic touch. Make sure to bring groceries and drinks with ya to avoid running up to the store or even into Stephenville for anything after you arrive. John’s hospitality is absolutely unmatched, I was so happy to leave a rave review and we will absolutely be back with friends and family!

Cabin , camp fires , wildlife !!!!!
The property is beautiful. We over looked a quiet private lake in a unadorned but not too rustic cabin. The deer came to feed in the evening after a day of fishing or kayaking while we sat fireside. Our host rode up horseback to make sure our needs were met.
