Beautiful and quiet setting, river
John’s campground is in a wonderful setting, with the tent sites right next to the creek / river. It’s nestled in a lightly wooded area, and paths have been created to easily navigate the campground.
This location is wonderful for tent camping and for a short drive to nearby Glen Rose and Cleburne.

My husband and I stayed at DeerCreek while attending our daughter’s soccer tournament nearby. We enjoyed listening to the waterfalls (especially at night), loved short hike around the property and really appreciated the clean eco-friendly facilities. Thankful that we took a chance and stayed at DeerCreek instead of a hotel or the state park. If we ever make it back to the area we will definitely return!

Great camping experience.
This place was great. I didn't really have to interact with the host because his directions for the camp were so clear. Everything was very clearly marked. The bathrooms were very clean and cared for. I got the site right across from the little waterfall. It was like having a white noise machine going all night long. The trash cans were all empty and no trash around the camp sites. At night it sounded like there may be a small airfield nearby. You can hear a lot of little single and double engine planes going. The host has a large wagon to drag your stuff back to your site right in the parking area. Definitely a site for a nice low key camp.

10/10 Best Idea Ever!!
This was our first time camping together as a friend group so as newbies we were a little nervous going into the weekend because we hadn’t done it before. But now that we’re gone I can wholeheartedly say it was 100% the best decision ever! It’s not far from DFW but it felt like we were in a different country once we were there. So beautiful, so chill, it was a perfect way to end the year on New Years Eve. We had a blast on the trail, it was super clear where we were supposed to walk but it didn’t seem forced or fake, we really just had peaceful and safe hikes without worrying about getting lost or exhausted. Our favorite part was that every camping site faced a gorgeous waterfall that gave us the best background sound. It felt like we were in a movie! The host, John, was EXTREMELY easy to get ahold of and more than clear with instructions and expectations to have a good time. We didn’t feel stranded out there because we knew he’d pick up the phone. Will most certainly not be the last time we come and as a friend group John turned these “newbies” into “campers!”

Very quiet and peaceful location. The falls are a great backdrop to allow you a mental escape. The trail is great for younger kids to explore and the location to other state parks is fantastic. You can drop in and explore while returning to your quaint campsite without the hundreds of camper trailers and tents surrounding your site.

Camping is In-Tents! ;)
Such a great camping experience at Johns place! Not only was John a great communicator, the campgrounds had all the accommodations and helpful tools for when we needed assistance. John provided chairs and had shovels and tools there that let us fix the grounds and clean up on our trip. It was such an amazing sight to wake up with a forest and river view and spend time outside with nature. The camp grounds were fun to explore and the wildlife was crazy to hear. It was an overall pleasant experience and John made sure to have everything prepared for all sorts of situations. 10/10, would do it again.

Waterfall Camping
My husband and I loved tent camping on John’s land! The sound of the waterfall was very relaxing. The directions were clear and the bathroom/shower was a huge plus. There are several sites nearby and other campers were very loud into the early morning. But all in all this is a wonderful campsite and we’ve already planned our next trip!

Great trip! We will be back!
My family had a great time on Mr. John's land. We will definitely be back! We rented the large deck at site #5 and had a perfect view of the little waterfall. My kids, ages 3 & 7 roamed all over the area around the campsite and up and down the creek. The hot water and electricity were not working the weekend that we were there, but things like that happen, and the host was nice enough to bring us his own generator and fuel for us to use as needed. There is a short trek from the small parking area to the campsites, but there is a wagon there for you to use to haul gear. The walking trails were nicely cleared and marked and my kids had no problem keeping up on them. The campsites are closer together than I expected, but it didn't cause any problems, as we had great neighbors on both sides of us. We can't wait to take another trip and hopefully have our other family members camping with us!

Great place to camp with little one
Great private property. The little waterfall is great. We took our two young boys and had the best time. We did the trails, splashed around the water fall and sat around the fire pit. As other reviews say, the sites are very close to each other. We stayed at Site 4, plenty of space for our tent (ours is an 8 man tent) but not much room for anything else. If we had a smaller tent, I would have definitely opted for the platform sites. Nice to have short walk to the restroom. Road to campsite is a little tight with trees on both sides, so if you drive a big vehicle, be very careful or you can get it scratched up.

We loved camping at the Deer Creek Campground. It was relaxing to hear the running water in the stream and John was an absolutely wonderful host. We enjoy hiking the trails and we were fortunate enough to see deer, a rabbit, and a lot of native flowers and plants.

Avoid the crowded state parks!
We loved camping on John's land. There is an actual waterfall! It's not very tall but it was lovely to listen to.
The sky was dark enough we were able to even see the Milky Way.
And make sure to walk the trail. It's an easy trail but very pretty.

John's place was great. The trails were extensive and led to some really cool spots around the property. I was a little surprised to see how close the two sites were to each other, but our neighbors were very friendly and even offered some of their firewood. The waterfall and creek were beautiful and relaxing, especially on a hot day. It was also nice to have a shower nearby.

The camping area was clean and the tree house is cool to see. At certain times of the day you can see rabbits, turtles, and a few snakes. John is very friendly and Deer Creek is a nice little place to get away from some of the modern world.

Fun daddy-daughter camping
This was a great spot to camp with my five year old. It felt off grid but had nice amenities (shower, toilet, sink, electricity). You can barely hear distant road noise but the waterfall provided a pleasant, constant background. Bugs were not an issue at all. Lots of shade. The location is also excellent because it’s centrally located between Glen rose and cleburne (both about 15 min away). Host was also a good communicator. Would definitely come back!

Loved listening to the waterfall..
Such a nice place for a weekend getaway. John’s property was very accommodating and serene. Would recommend to anyone looking for a nice place to camp when most parks are booked around this time. The bathhouse was clean and near all campsites. Campsites are close to each other so if you value a lot of privacy that is something to consider. Definitely always make sure to pack a portable battery and water as for any camping trip. Our last night we didn’t have any power due to a malfunction but we had no other issues. I would definitely come back anytime I’m looking to stay in Glen Rose. Dinosaur Valley State Park is only 15 min away and is a nice place to visit for hiking!

This was an excellent campground, complete with trash cans, solar powered outlets, and an outhouse with running water. The site was easy to find, and our host was very helpful and provided great information. I'm so glad we decided to stay here instead of the State Park.

My wife and I had the best camping trip ever at John's. Super nice land, beautiful waterfall, fun hiking trail, bathroom with a shower. Just the best getaway you could imagine. Will most certainly be coming back here in the future!

Land was pretty , facilities were not clean, urine leaked out onto the floor from the composting toilet , directions said to clean toilet with disinfectant wipes but there was none , entrance into camp needs to be cleared of trees , scratched top of truck in multiple areas , parking was very limited , 5 camp sites but only enough room for 3 vehicles

We had a memorable overnight at John's place with our two young kids. They spent the afternoon playing in the shallow creek and the waterfall, made the brief hike to the tree house and meadow and played with the kids from the other two families in the camp. There was a burn ban in effect, which was a unfortunate, but certainly beyond the control of the owner. Be sure to have a back-up plan for cooking, or a quick trip to Glen Rose's many restaurants...

We had a great time! The camp sites are convenient and the the area is very relaxing. The tent spots are a little close together so if there are a lot of people there be prepared to be close to other campers. Overall we had a great time and John was a great host!!

Our family had a great time camping on at this site! We liked it do much we ended up extending our stay another day. Four of the five sites have views of the stream/creek and the sound of the waterfall is very relaxing.The site is 15 minutes from Dinosaur Valley State Park and about 10 min from town in case you forgot something. The host, John is very kind and we enjoyed meeting him.

Really enjoyed staying on John’s land and exploring the trails and creek on the property. The raised platform for tents is a plus along with the fire rings. Some other guests were nearby however everyone was pleasant and the area was spaced quite well.

Love coming out to John’s land! He is more than accommodating every time and has the property set up beautifully. The hike to the treehouse is perfectly laid out, and tent set ups are great, and having electricity in the bathroom makes it a little more homey. I’d definitely recommend his place if you want a peaceful, relaxing getaway!
