Absolutley amazing stay. Can not beat the amenities they have available. Our grandbabies loved the Tipi and even though it rained we stayed nice and dry. Owners are super friendly.

We really enjoyed our weekend! Community area was clean and well kept with plenty to do. Not too many people there when we went so it was nice and quiet as well.

Really is a hideaway!
Great place for singles, couple, and or family. Very quiet and quaint atmosphere along with friendly operators of the hideaway. It literally is a hideaway there is so much brush and coverage in the primitive tent area. Clean restroom and showers, nice pavilion an luckily for us the pool was open 24/7 which really helped us tent campers on the 100 degree day and cooling off in the middle of the night for more comfortable sleep. Will love to revisit in the future! There is a little general store on site but if needed a gas station is not too far away.

Al's Hideaway Primitive Camping
Their name is perfect, because this place is very tucked away! I felt very safe tent camping here solo, especially given there were no other tent campers that night! The property is tucked away off of any major roads, and you have to follow one of the camp hosts in your vehicle to even get to the tent camping area, which I liked.
The bathroom was about a 1 minute walk from where my tent was pitched, and it had one sink and two toilet stalls. There was a motion sensor light that turned on at night which was helpful for finding it in the dark. Overall it was a great place to stay for one night as I was passing through the area!

Al's Hideaway Primitive Camping
It was great to be at Al’s Hideaway once again. Was there two years ago camping outback on the primitive site. Very peaceful and woodsy. This time had a camper so was in the RV spot which was very comfortable. Good to see the addition of a general store, feels like a camp. Also love the big patio area with outdoor kitchen and bathrooms and showers. Overall just a great experience once again.

Lovely secluded spot, full hookups!
This is a great spot, professional spot but still “rustic”. I don’t mind RV parks but a lot of them are just jam packed together so I loved this Hideaway because it has full hook ups but also small and not crowded. Beautiful land, my kids had a great time exploring. Clear skies with a great view of the stars. I have already recommended it to someone who lives nearby if they have out of town guests looking for a place to stay.

Super Happy Glampers!
This is the perfect glamping experience! We loved our teepee-it was more than we expected it to be. The hosts are the absolute best, Al gave us a cool road trip for our jeep and it did not disappoint. Our teepee was clean, nice queen size bed, an electric heater, a fan/ac, couch and still roomy! The restroom is not far from the teepees, we had a cute fire pit, and the showers at the pavilion were clean. We went for walks with our pets on a leash, we were able to go to Boerne for a fun day. I promise you will want to stay here again and again. I know we will!

One night stay 🙌
Stayed one night for a couple of hours. The hose was really nice and accommodated my late arrival. I got to the campsite at 11pm. There is plenty of space and nice and quiet at night.

Friendly, fun, fairly private
Al, Jennifer, and all the staff at Al’s hideaway are very nice and friendly. The primitive site is great. Surrounded by trees with enough clearing for a few cars and tents. Tent stakes went in easily and stayed well.
We filled the fire ring with local deadfall wood. It burns quickly so stock up on plenty to last the night. Consider bringing a hatchet or saw to cut bigger pieces.
There is some road noise and you can definitely hear sounds from the pavilion, but with a little music of your own those sounds are not noticeable.
You should know that Al’s mostly caters to cabin and RV campers. There are a couple of cool teepees you can rent as well. There’s a pool and hot showers.

Overall it was ok, but was kept awake by incessant dog barking. Maybe I was dreaming but I thought I heard a donkey braying and maybe geese?

Al and Jennifer's place was really relaxing. Al gave us a grand tour and was a truly unique character. A shame we only got to spend one night there. We had the pick of any campsite we wanted and it was totally private. Exactly the Texas experience we were looking for!

Mostly Good Time :)
My husband and I wanted to get away for a weekend to get the camping experience in Texas. Al allowed us to be in a secluded area because we asked for it and everyone was generally kind. It was a good getaway for sure, however if you’re expecting to swim in a river/lake or have the camping experience then this is more of a “glamping” situation. (There is lake Medina about 20 min away but it’s honestly not that great of an experience unless you have a jet ski or boat.)
Also - just be aware that people stay out in the main area till 11:30 pm most nights talking very loudly and screaming/singing. It didn’t bother us much however if that’s annoying to you be aware of it! They said they have a “swimming area” but in reality it’s a small pool you’d find in a backyard and it was pretty much packed all day so we didn’t have much to do during the hot summer day.
All in all it was a good experience and would probably go again when it’s not in the middle of summer, but would just rent out a cabin instead to at least have some AC!

Nice hosts, awesome site! We wish we had more days to stay here. We slept well and were sad to leave after just one night without being able to explore everything that the campground had to offer.

A great place for camping newbies!
My friend and I had a girls camping weekend at Al’s Hideaway and we had a great time!. I haven’t camped since I was a kid so this was a great place to reacquaint myself with it all. The property is beautiful and the people are friendly. We were able to primitive tent camp but still had access to amenities if needed. The pavilion/kitchen/pool/shower area was a nice place to cool off and chit chat with others. The new office/camp store was a lifesaver when I needed to get more ice. My German Shepherd, Charlie, even made some new friends. I really appreciated being able to bring him with me everywhere on the property and he really appreciated the yummy treats he was given. I am definitely coming back with my son as soon as I can.
