Your host Val has walked away from her life as a tenured graphic design professor for a passion that is probably her true calling. Inspired by travels and a youth immersed in girls scouts, I created this retreat center and camp for the opportunity to relish in nature, put away the phone and get back to craft, conversation, and the basics of life. You'll relish in the quiet and beauty of the rural rolling foothills of Appalachia in mid-south TN. 20 minutes from any town so prepare en route. Route 99 splits the 17 acres with retreat center on one side and an 11.5 acre campground with significant river front property On The Buffalo. This is in Lewis county - of the Lewis and Clark adventurers. The Buffalo River is a class 1 and sometimes 2 river perfect for kayaking. Ask about add on options like a tour and story about the camp and animals or even a pottery lesson or art workshop.

RV at Camp Wonder Wander
I would recommend the RV site for an overnight or very short stay. With it being immediately off the highway, it’s not ideal for a long stay or if you have small kids. The area needed some attention. Val was super friendly and my kids LOVED the animals.

Buffalo River camping
Tent camping on Val’s property was great! We took a guided Nature walk and she explained different plant and animal life. We got to meet the donkeys, then had the day and night all to ourselves on a small bluff over the Buffalo River. It was great for one night away from the city.

Couples camping trip
We had a great time tent camping! Very scenic, private and relaxing. Would definitely recommend it, some cool things to discover in the woods and the river is right below you. Definitely get there in the day Time though as it can be a little confusing in the dark.

Stop, drop, and come here NOW
If you're thinking that this adorable, bohemian retreat might be the place for you- it's because it ABSOLUTELY is. I would almost prefer to recommend this place like I would one of my favorite movies or TV series, which is to say; just go. I don't need to give you the details, because you should discover them for yourself. GO.

RV at Camp Wonder Wander
Unique setting with donkeys and chickens, in an artists colony. We stayed in our rv, and were provided with electricity by the gracious host. Across the road was a trail leading to a bluff with a river below. Our dogs enjoyed walks on the trail snd so did we. A nice slice of country living.

Awesome family fun!
What a wonderful place! The chalkboard wall was a huge hit and the donkeys were so nice. My kids absolutely loved staying there and there was definitely plenty of sleeping room for us! We will definitely stay here again on our next Buffalo float!

TENT CAMP at Camp Wonder Wander
We didn’t really know what to expect but we stayed by the bluff. There should be a statement on the site that if you want to stay by the bluff a large truck will not make it back there, we had a 4-door Ford and it almost didn’t make it. Once there though it was very quiet and we took a short hike down to the water.

Beautiful land! River was fantastic to swim in! Nice way to cool off:). Only issue is there was an extra 20$ fee per adult and the composting toilet was not built yet. Once that happens this place is perfect!! Val was very pleasant and I lived seeing her donkeys! Oh and a nice wild Billy goat visited us in the morning 😊

TENT CAMP at Camp Wonder Wander
Incredible experience. Options for everyone and anyone - private, open pastures or camp in a beautiful garden. We set up in a sweet yard area, complete with chairs accommodated by our amazing host Val. Val also runs a sweet creative retreat throughout the year, and so we enjoyed her creative spaces and donkeys roaming! So peaceful. Quiet everywhere.
